WHAT IS IT WITH GCAP & PSB?

It seems the Capital Group are steadfastly standing by their policy (ongoing for about 10 years now!) of not playlisting new PSB material.
Capital FM in London, plus all the other local stations they own around the UK, are, however, happy to playlist:
Prince - Just released another shit album, 15 years since the last decent one, but they keep adding his new singles to the playlist.
Lorraine - A blatantly PSB inspired act. Why not play the original and far superior genuine article?!
A-HA - Same era as boys but even more of an "80s act" and even longer since they had a major success.
Delays - Another PSB inspired act (melodically at least). I actually like this lot, but why play them and not PSB?
Does anyonehave any 'inside' info on what GCAP's issue is with PSB? It almost seems like a vendetta?

GCAP as in owners of XFM who had PSB in the studio performing live a couple of years ago?!
Maybe Capital don't see PSB as suitable for their target audience.
Fortunately for PSB, Radio 2, the station with the countries biggest audience is perfect 'target' audience, hence all the airplay and on air support they get.
Capital's loss is Radio 2's gain, hence R2's healthy audience and CGAP's continued audience slide!

As part of my job I work with (and appear on from time to time) a station owned by the group.
I had a chat with the station controller a few weeks back and no, it's not a vendetta and it's not a group policy decision.
Quite simply, as stated above, PSB do not really fit in to their target audience, although each release would be looked at on its own merits in terms of airplay.
Re a couple of your examples above:
Prince is a global superstar regardless of what you (or anyone else) thinks of his new material. Can't stand it personally!
A-Ha is really a retro thing and you have kind of answered your own question - having struggled on for such a long time with nothing but fan recognition, to come back with such a strong album and radio friendly single did it for them.
As of last week they still had not even received the single from Parlophone's regional promotions team incidentally - maybe that says something in itself!

I've heard a couple of PSB songs on Capital, but only on the 'Remember the year' morning half hour. So they play the 80/90's stuff but nothing current. It's still great to hear PSB blasting out of Capital FM even if it is old but I agree frustrating that they don't go beyond that.
Speaking of hearing PSB on the radio. On my recent trip to Malta, swinging round the rocky bends on a bus I suddenly heard 'It's a Sin' coming from the driver's radio!!! Well suited as Malta is a very Catholic Country

Capital is awful. It presents London as a corporate anaemic cipher where Daniel Bedingfield ballads emote at every corner. PSB are such a distinctively London group too - that's what's most ironic about them not playing them!

Exactly!

So has anyone heard 'I'm with stupid' on a GCAP owned station?
As of last week they still had not even received the single from Parlophone's regional promotions team incidentally
And what's that all about?

Just to update - they hadn't received anything as of today - and it was the Head of Music that I spoke to this afternoon!

I've spoken to colleagues at stations around the country and none of them have received the single. Couple didnt know there was a new album coming out either!
Don't worry about GCAP! They have serious problems with its audience sliding away........

i know scottish radio holdings dont recieve copies of the promo's too easily! I brought up this point to Neil at the Nightlife tour in Edinburgh and he seemed to think we only had BBC Radio Scotland, even though he'd just been interviewed on forth fm. The late great Tom Wilson was a huge fan and when i asked him to play I don't know what you want but I can't give it any more he said he didnt have it at real radio.
