Pet Shop Boys influenced from an unlikely source?

There are segments to a lot of PSB songs that sound familiar to old Commodore 64/Amiga tunes. I'm probably way off the mark but surely someone out there notices the simliarity?

The SID chip sounds like an analogue synth, so if the Pets used analogue synths, it might sound similar.

I find the intro of Sodom very Star Force, an old arcade shooter. And Very was influenced by 16-bit era videogames.

Funny that I was listening to
Relentless the other day and some of the sounds hark back to Sega Mega Drive 16 bit days....actually if memory serves me correctly I think Chris had been playing alot of Sonic The Hedgehog at the time (in a interview?)....also the Very videos (as already mentioned) where inspired by computer games as they wanted to be 'digital creatures'

Yes, in I wouldn't normally do this kind of thing they parody some 2d fighters (SF2 or MK most probably, two mega hits of that era).

It's true though there are other bands that sound even more like that.
I think my taste in music was shaped in part by those C64 soundtracks - amazing how much they got out of such a primitive sound system.
Even today, a band like Press Play on Tape are covering those songs

Talking of other bands using those sounds there's a band called Tree Wave I think who I found by accident on the net and they used C64s in their music...I'm off to check my library
Actually talking of Sonic I've just found the entire music to the games in my library in MP3 format haha. I got this from the Sega Sound Team many years ago

Another similarity between me and Chris.

I used to play Sonic a lot.
