According to this link below Fundamental is NUMBER 13 in the WORLD ALBUM CHART,
selling 89,200.

If this is true, then this is FANTASTIC for the Pet Shop Boys 20 Years+ into their career, in a 'not so friendly pop world.'

Actually I think that's a massive disappointment. 89.000 copies isn't very much when you consider how large a proportion of PSB's collective sales are usually shifted during the first week.

I hope that chart is unreliable.

Wasn't a rough number of 60,000 albums sold in the first week for the UK announced here a few days ago? If so, the world number is certainly much higher.

No. I don't remember the figure, but it was in the range of 25.000 I think.

If you heard the number 60.000, then it must have been shipments.

Yep. You're right. 26,000 apparently. So the number given here could be close to the truth. Most European charts are not as "new releases-driven" as the UK chart so their sales are more constant. In fact, Fundamental wasn't available on the shelves of the main Belgian store before Thursday. So it seems plausible that a good chunk of the first week sales would be from the UK.

Is there any numbers known for Germany and Japan? I'd say those would be the most important markets besides UK and US.

Quite interesting. But I would really like to know which countries are actually included in this chart. Don't get me wrong I know it's called WORLD charts but I wouldn't be too sure about the fact that it really includes all the sales from all countries because I'd say that at the point this chart was compiled probably not all the the charts or all the sales had been published/updated or whatever. For example the German album charts are officially published every friday so Fundamental entered only today if want so (though we knew its entry position for some days already)

Anyway, it will be interesting to keep an eye on this chart to see how the sales will be in the coming week(s)...
