However, while we've all had lots to complain about with regards to the punditry during the World Cup, there was one area where the BBC did surprisingly well - the "we're out" montage at the end of the England game. With the perfectly-chosen Pet Shop Boys song Numb, it was a classy summing up of all the trials and tribulations of England's World Cup, as well as describing how most of the fans were feeling at that point.
To illustrate my point, later on in the evening, I overheard a conversation between two girls in the queue at a chippy (how better to recover from an England defeat than with some good honest fish 'n' chips?) where one was telling the other how her father just went to bed as soon as Ronaldo (boo! hiss!) scored his penalty, leaving the TV on, his beer half-drunk and the living room in disarray. It's a hard life being a football fan you know...
"Don't wanna hear the news
What's going on
What's coming through
I don't wanna know
Don't wanna know
Just wanna hide away
Make my my escape
I want the world
To leave me alone
Feels like I feel too much
I've seen too much
For a little while
I want to forget
I wanna be numb
I don't wanna feel this pain no more
Wanna lose touch
I just wanna go and lock the door
I don't wanna think
I don't wanna feel nothing
I wanna be numb"

See, don't you feel much better now?
