In Sunday's Star-Ledger newspaper (yesterday) there was a long feature article on Tris McCall's upcoming performance in Jersey City that had a sidebar about well known musicians who were former music critics. One of the examples given:
Neil Tennant of the Pet Shop Boys, covering a Police concert: "A light breeze ruffles (Sting's) blond hair and his sharp, bony face and gleaming yes are brought into focus. For a moment he looks too good to be true, almost unreal, like a beautiful alien."
Other quotes were offered from Patti Smith (on Bob Dylan), Chrissie Hynde (of the Pretenders, on Brian Eno), and Ira Kaplan (of Yo La Tengo, on NRBQ).

Very strange to see the words 'Neil Tennant" and 'New Jersey" in the same sentence, kinda like the words "Clean Air" and "New Jersey"

or "No Smell" and "Elizabeth" or "the Turnpike". ;)

it's even funnier to think that Neil was actually IN Jersey at some point!

I don't think the PSBs have ever played in Jersey.

Shame, the new NJ Performing Arts Center in Newark is a world-class concert hall. (Come to think of it, they have never played in Pittsburgh either, and Pittsburgh has two absoultely stunning concert venues: The Benedum--which houses the fantastic Pittsburgh Opera Company--and Heniz Hall, where the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra plays).

no, no, not playing. I seem to remember reading that neil was in the NY/NJ area while he was here interviewing Sting or whomever.
