it's beautiful, the arrangement is so moving, and it's better with this faster beat
in overall, it's much much improved and better than demo
ending is the best, when he says ''bright young thing'' line at the end, you think it will go in fade-out but then he adds ''nightingale sings'' line... amazing!

I've only heard some clips of it (going to get the CD tomorrow) and it doesn't sound nearly as good as the demo.

well youll have to hear the whole thing - the 30 sec clips are always misleading

it SUCKS compared to the demo IMO

BYT demo is one of my favorite PSB songs. this new version is like a remix of the original - almost like in the old days when we would get a new single with a new b side and the remix single would have a remix of the biside.

i love the way they quote Born Slippy, or is it an actual sample?

I agreed with you until I heard the entire song.

I like it much more than the snippet really. But I still think the demo is great as well.

In fact I like it alot, the more I hear it the better it gets. Actually I'm listening to it now on headphones (cos' it's late) on a repeat loop.

I mean you don't expect to hear that everyday do you.

It's magnificent, and the poignant highlight of the Numb release.

An overbearing sense of bitter-sweet ephemeralism transcends the night as Tennant defiantly but sadly observes the passing of time.

Heavy loss permeates his perception and, though he tries ("no one is weary, or lost, or forlorn"), he can't escape the minor tragedy that is life ticking by. "It's time..."

Yet, there's a brave fight to put up first, and though he's going down, he'll make the best of it before he's seen off.

The stately concluding chords work as the perfect metaphor for the mournful finale that is the ebbing away of not just a party, but of life itself.

This is the kind of dolorous social observation that makes Pet Shop Boys the international musical treasure that they are. Like the lives they chronicle, they're not long for this world themselves. "Listen, the nightingale sings..."

Agree that it's a masterpiece. I still prefer the slightly slower demo though.

I've never heard the demo, so I come to this song with very fresh ears.

It's quite a romantic piece. The singer is obviously intoxicated with his BYT conquest. And seemingly optomistic. PSB .. optomistic ?? oh, yeah ....
Yet it's also a social commentary - parties, fashion, drugs, sex, old colliding with new - in other words, the last 70 years in a nutshell.

I'm extremely happy with this song. PSB do these " fly on the wall observation " songs better than anyone. Thanks, N&C ..

I have had the demo for a few years now, and just love this song.

It reminds me of Prom nights or Social's for young High Schoolers.

Have'nt yet listened to the new version.

bah.. how many times i listen to the new one, the old one keeps ringing in my ears.. someone should've told the boys... "Release the DEMO as a B-side"

Very good indeed. Production could have been a bit better (very oldfashioned beat for example), but it's a good song.
