It Couldn't (& doesn't) happen here

Just finished viewing the Pet Shop Boys "classic" movie It Couldn't happen here & i still seem to have a love/hate feeling about it. On the good side it has some pure classic Tennant & Lowe performances like Neil cycling on the sea front & giving us a great dialogue in a proper english accent. Chris placing all his belongings in the suitcase with no bottom to it, sitting down to brekkers in the B&B run by Peggy Mitchell ( sorry, Babs Windsor ), "Oh Chrissy darling. What have i done to deserve this? Then off Chrissy trots along the seafront!
Great scene in the cafe...."and an extra plate of Beans!!!
Then you get the guff parts like Neil talking to the fortune teller ( surely Chris ) & the corny dialogue in purchasing the car. Do like the line "How much ?"
Of course with the soundtrack to all the classic songs makes the viewing quite bearable.
Is the finale any good ? Depends how you view the whole journey through the film.
I'm glad we have It Couldn't happen here to look back on but it will take me a few more viewings to try & understand the whole story...if there is a story!

It couldn't happen here is an interesting movie but much more better if you are drunk or on drugs. I also love the part where they bought a car and the one where they order in a restaurant. The finale is also interesting but never undertood the story of that movie.

Cheers,

Wasn't it supposed to be 'a surreal voyage with PSB meeting strange characters'? I remember reading this back then, and after having seen the movie I must say there's really not much more to it than that. It's a bit of an arty-farty french-type art-house flick from which you're never sure what the story's supposed to be.
I enjoyed it, though, of course, no one understood.
