WESTLIFE???? If a band should ever have died in a plane crash rather than the Big Bopper and Richie Valens et al, on the day music died its this bunch of insipid, bland to*8ers. did anyone even know they had a single out? I generally try to steer away from music snobbery, but this kind of music that a lift would find offensive, is bought by people who not only don't like music, but whom I suspect hate music. There can be no other explanation. Bring back Take That to bury these bast8rds.

The charts mean nothing.

Incredibly, it has now been 7½ years since Westlife had their first #1. They can no longer be regarded as a typical boyband with 2-3 years of success before the dumper beckons. I don't even think that much of their audience is teenage girls anymore - it's probably more grannies and housewifes.

Actually, their last album was shockingly decent. Quite good, even.

The so-called charts have been a joke aeons ago.

Just because your average boyband tops the chart, we should stop caring? I do care about PSB chart results, since they reflect their commercial success. That commerical success is more than welcome to extend their career in music.

What is bizarre about Westlife's singles chart position is that downloads represent around only 10 - 12% of sales..........whereas the market average is about 57%.

Are all Westlife fans old grannies without computers popping a cd in with their horlicks at their local tesco?

No, they have (whether you like it or not), loyal fans who go out and buy their copies in music stores. In fact it's rather similar to PSB... Don't forget that Westlife is already around since 1999, when legal music downloads weren't around yet.

Speaking of *taste*, however....

Westlife are without doubt the most soulless pointless group in chart history. They are Robson and Jerome without the wild experimentation (their version of Unchained Melody is both ground-breaking and epoch-defining). Jesus, they're even worse than Boyzone.

To be honest TvDB, I DO care about psb chart postions (I shouldn't, but i do) which is why when such utter vacuous dross like WestZone does well, I want to cry. I guess it's just reassuring that chart positions have no bearing on quality. (though not to say good songs don't do well, or even deserve to be no.1 sometimes)

Kasabian's new album is a shocker. Their debut was promising, derivative but done well. I never liked Gary Glitter so this new one does nothing for me. They think they're a much better band than they quite evidently are. Thoroughly unpleasant individuals.

The new Xtina single is awful. A vomituous attempt to redo Beautiful but with none of that song's redeeming qualities.

Fair point ! Sorry, I actually only 'cut and pasted' that chart from Popbitch, it wasn't an indictment against those other songs, Madonna's Jump is great. I was just so incensed about the'life
