A Drunk Dusty and Lip-synching!

Well, I just finished A Life in Pop and it was superb. However, there are a significant amount of "live" video clips with plenty of lip-synching--lord, especially all of those "Brits" and "Top of the Pops" performances!
The 1988 Brits with Dusty is particularly embarrassing--she looks completely intoxicated! Especially when she points at Chris on the keyboards towards the middle. She almost even flubs up the words at the end!
Oh and that *gasp* "Welsh Miner bit" for Go West--ack! Poor Sylvia is forced to lip-sync and she totally gets it wrong!
THANKFULLY the PSB these days are singing LIVE... (both West End girls and TSAGS this past week on American television were live)...

well on TSAGS on the late late show he is singing along with prerecorded vocals but even rappers do that nowadays so its no biggie.

I think on the Late, Late Show he was singing more live for the first part, but when the bridge came ("...meaning of the show...") and after, it was definitely all prerecorded.

Remember that top of the Pops actually recommends you lipsynch--apparantly it wws much easier on the show to match it up or something

Top of the Pops recommends lipsynching? Awful!! Seriously though, all those Life in Pop clips would be so much better if they were sung live. And that Dusty bit is just...well...silly really.

ya--I knwo that cuz Kylie Minogue likes to sing live and apparantly that's the reason her totp performances were largely all lip synched when she'd do the same performance live on other shows....

According to Graham Massey (808 State), there was no time to do a proper sound check so the best thing to do was mime or there was a risk that it wouldn't sound right even if you made no mistakes of your own. They would play a tape and just have fun hacking away at the keyboards.

I for one think Dusty's performance at the Brits 88 was out of this world. So what if she had a drink, she should have offered the audience a drink. Not one of the party poopers seem to have got into the rythum of the song. I suppose it was the Royal Albert Hall which as we know is used to opera & classical events.
I loved them 80's performances where Neil was more often than not dressed in a suit & Chris dressed in the latest (or even exclusive only to himself) fashion.
As for Chris' walk on to the stage...cool dude or a geek?
The latter for me on this one i'm afraid, he tried too hard to be cool...but hey it was the 80's!

wasnt Dusty on the wagon at that time? i thought her performance was great.
as for lipsynch vs. live...
i thought the producers of the Brits and other UK TV prefer artists lipsynching, im not sure why.
on the GoWest performance it sounded as if the miners were live, but Neil was very lox in the mix
