I came across the old Live 8 thread, and I wanted to mention that if it wasn't for Live 8 I wouldn't be a fan, cause I caught a highlight of West End Girls on a late night Canadian show, and it intruiged me. A week later I saw Discography in a used CD store and from there I was hooked. I read in that thread that some felt they were selling out, that they'd do anything now just for publicity, and I kind of agree with them, but I would never have had the opportunity to ponder the PSB morals if they didn't 'sell out'. They had such a great early career that they can afford to do whatever they want now, because the fans that see through the bullshit can appreciate them for what they were, which helps us understand what they are now. I just wanted to put my two cents in on that issue, and I didn't feel like replying to a year old thread, so yeah. Also, I'd like to know what the PSB did, or what song it was, that made you a fan, cause that's always an interesting topic, and I apologize if it's been discussed ad nauseum before.

Delighted you became a fan. Good to have you on board! I didn't like West end Girls when is first came out (love it now) and it was Suburbia that hooked me, I bought Please and listened to it every night on my walkman in a dormitory (I was 13), and woke up every morning with the walkman smashed on the wooden floor and the headphones wrapped around my arms and legs. But the songs were all about escape and the excitment of being somewhere else, or the possiblity of being somewhere else at night. It remains my favourite album really (although on a par with Behaviour and Bilingual). The wait, and hearing It's a sin for the first time on top of the pops was the absolute highlight.

Yes welcome and great to see new fan in their "youth" hehe... Suburbia also got me hooked, still remember where I was when I heard it for the first time at 14 in 1986 on a dancefloor of a social center for kids from my neighbourhood in the west end of Reykjavík.... Still makes me smile that thought

although I knew the name, I was never really aware of their music until a music store had started playing very and I heard liberation. I would say that one song set it all in motion. I bought the tape on the spot and pretty much bought their whole catelog over the following weeks and had a sort of marathon.

until then I had been into def leppard and judas priest and metallica. weird how you can totally switch gears musically sometimes.

Their Live 8 performance wasn't exactly one of the highlights of their career, yet it's good to see it delivered them some new fans. I also remember the Nightlife album doing so, much to my surprise.

Great that you became fan. We really need more fans here.
