I'm dealing with PSB Discography these days, there's tons of tracks, and they all need to be put in category they belong to, I got stuck with one of categories
I'm having trouble with compiling final list of b-sides
it's kinda individual 'cause some people consider some tracks as b-sides while others don't
but knowing what b-side is, I consider b-sides only new songs featured on singles
other tracks on singles could be named just bonus tracks (live versions, remixes, mixes, versions...)
but then again, what about ''CYFG (swing version)'', ''Violence (hacienda version'', ''In the night 1995'', ''Discoteca (new version)'', No time for tears (7'' mix)....
I'm kinda lost when you write down all these tracks...
what are your thoughts? how would your b-sides list look like?

See the "Rank the B-sides" topic for a pretty complete list. Missing from this list are different versions of tracks that were released on albums before, such as:

Violence (Hacienda version)
In The Night 1995
Discoteca (new version)
In Private
Can You Forgive Her (swing version)

and the 2 b-sides released after the survey started: Party Song and Bright Young Things.

Yeah, we really want an Alternative 2, don't we!
Although the Pets themselves have said that there will not be one, but let's hope they can change their minds!

I think it makes sense to think of b-sides as tracks that were initially released in PSB versions as additional tracks on singles, thus excluding remixes of previously released songs. Otherwise the list becomes too blurred by songs that are most known in their original versions (which is already a problem with I want a dog). By this definition, Psychological would also be considered a b-side, which I think would be misleading.

To be honest, I think everybody can have his or her own criteria for what you consider singles, B-sides, whatever.

Is "Seriously" a single? I say YES, since it was an US single a release and a double A-side in Europe. An other fan may say no. What the heck.

Same with Violence. I consider it a new version of an older album track, others may consider it a B-side. Same with "No Time For Tears". It was a bonus track on a PSB-single, but it was on a different album before. "Positive Role Model" ... only a bonus track on a German single, later released on an album. I could go on and on.

It's pretty useless to have a massive discussion about this.

Absolutely agree with second line, however, I just think, in terms of recording industry and market these songs:

Violence [hacienda version]
In The Night 1995
Discoteca [new version]
In Private
Can You Forgive Her [swing version]

and such-like tracks is b-sides obviously, because:
1) most of them appears on CD1 of singles, not mentioned in single' title at once;
2) it's not remix of a-side or another song (do we need to argue this? Well, I agree - hacienda version of Violence present a kind of exception there).
Even live tracks on singles usually called as nothing but "live b-sides", but then mixes (including of non-single tracks) is mentioned separately.

BTW,"Break 4 Love" is non-PSB track and so not b-side of "Home and Dry", just for me...

I think we should take Gardner's list as final 'cause after all, he is the man behind PSB-Discography

I agree with all others, they're all checked b-sides

I see these are not added and I'm not sure if they're b-sides too:

Can you forgive her (swing version) - totally new arrangement, like hacienda
Girls and boys - don't know about this, I know live tracks aren't considered but this is new song performed live, not too sure about this
Discoteca (new version) - if we take Hacienda as b-side, then why not this too, it's in totally new treatment, Neil sings it different, it's not a mix/remix
Break 4 love - original version was on Home and dry, and it's a new song, not sure though
Friendly fire - this one is definately, it was on I get along DVD
