A Radio 2 documentary narrated by Neil.
Next Tuesday, February 27th, at 8.30 pm, Radio 2 will broadcast a documentary about the legendary American artist, Andy Warhol, to mark the 20th anniversary of his death. Featuring contributions from many of Warhol's collaborators, the programme is narrated by Neil Tennant

I remember going to see the Warhol exhibition at the Tate Modern the day after PSB's show at the Astoria back in February 2002.
Fantastic seeing all those images that have become such a part of modern pop culture right there in front of you. His diary is a great read too.

News, of course, isn't everything. Pop music is at least as vital (at least, to me), so it was heartening to see In Search of the Perfect Pop Song on Radio 2's schedules. They got someone proper to present, too: Guy Chambers, the man Robbie Williams is finding he can't survive without. Chambers co-wrote Williams's 'Angels', a song regularly voted as the one British people most want played at their funerals (weddings, too). Unfortunately, Chambers's monotone style was about as poptastic as a baked potato. His producer worked hard to liven things up with a creditable selection of songs and interviewees to dribble over, including Rufus Wainwright, Sting, Louis Walsh and Cathy Dennis. Dennis, responsible for a genuine moment of pop genius (Kylie's 'Can't Get You Out of My Head') was to the point. 'It was more colourful, the music I was making before.' 'Interesting,' droned Chambers. 'It's interesting to me,' shot back Dennis. 'It's not interesting to anybody else. No one bought my last album.' It's a shit business, etc. Note to producers: next time, play Chambers some great pop music before you put him in front of a microphone. That, or set Robbie on him.
Pop culture was, of course, Andy Warhol's raison d'etre, and another Radio 2 documentary, The Warhol Effect, took on his influence on pop music. Presented by - yay! - Neil Tennant, this thrilled as Chambers's show disappointed. Tennant's script was stylish and revealing (Warhol's mother had nice handwriting, so he got her to sign his work), and the programme zipped along. However it's Chambers that has the five-part series, not Tennant. Someone sort it out!

Neil does have a great voice for radio. Very mellifluous.
