“Cubism - Live In Concert” was filmed in High Definition on November 14th 2006 in Mexico City at the Auditorio Nacionale. It was directed by David Barnard whose previous credits include the live concert films of Björk and Gorillaz. The sound for the film has now been mixed by long-standing Pet Shop Boys engineer Bob Kraushaar in both stereo and 5:1 surround sound.

Pet Shop Boys formed in London in August 1981 and are the most successful duo in UK pop history with 36 top 20 hits and 10 top-ten albums. They have sold over 100 million records worldwide. The release of their ninth studio album last summer, “Fundamental” (EMI), has already produced another two Top 20 singles in the UK and the US.

In December 2006, Pet Shop Boys were nominated for two Grammy Awards for Best Dance Recording (”I’m with Stupid”) and Best Electronic/Dance Album (Fundamental). EMI have also recently released a documentary DVD “A Life In Pop”.

“Cubism - Live in Concert” features the same show that the Pet Shop Boys will be touring worldwide in 2007.

I guess, cover must be something like a dark silhouette of Neil reclining in cube (or in rhombus) on a blue background, like Rent perfomances which I've seen in various videos from current tour. Um, and Chris somewhere, maybe as this giant "scalp"...
At least, that is what i'd like to see. I hope, cover of this DVD will be much more interesting than Fundamental and Concrete...

The second statement isn't inaccurate. "I'm with Stupid" and "Minimal" both went top-20 in the UK and top-10 on the US dance chart.

But they weren't Billboard Hot 100 top 20 hits, were they? That is suggested by the statement.

Is this really a 2-disc set with so little extras? Nice they've done a commentary though.

Concrete and Cubism - I see a theme developing.

I can't wait to buy it! It should be really good, like an early birthday present for me.

Live DVD

The production of the Pet Shop Boys live DVD is approaching completion. "Pet Shop Boys - Cubism. In concert/November 14th 2006/Auditorio Nacional/Mexico City" has a provisional international release date of May 14th but we are told that this may slip back by a week or two depending on the delivery date by director David Barnard of the final film and DVD extras which include a short film of Pet Shop Boys in Mexico City and a commentary by them.
Chris and Neil chose the title "Cubism" because the ingenious staging of the 2006 show, designed by Es Devlin, revolved around a cube which formed the backdrop to the show.
The DVD is released by Warner Vision.
