Partnership

Neil & Chris' music have spoken volumes over the past 23 years. The way they met, by chance is legendry. The way they have continued to break the barriers & not afraid to try new & different things prove what a strong & great Partnership they really have.
To me the stength of their partnership was for all to see at the beginning of the Fundamental tour where they both came on stage & shook each others hand, the FIRST time i have really seen them do that throughout their career.
Everytime i watch Cubism, that simple hand shake means so much, it represents what they have achieved together & that the future looks very strong for them.
Each of their productive ideas have moulded into one to produce some great music & visual productions that the music industry would be lost without.
1990 saw the first use of the words Pet Shop Partnership....such a simple word yet means so much.
What is your strongest image of Neil & Chris as a great Partnership ?

What I like enormously is that there has never been any talk of them to stop working together. Or about them disagreeing about something.

Yes they have enriched the music scene in so many ways, I shudder to think what the state of pop music would be like today without PSB.

Things got quite strained following Behaviour and the Performance tour, and they may have packed in then. I think it is mentioned on A Life In Pop.

Also i think the misunderstanding of "What time" they should have met at Kings Cross to shoot the video for Rent in 1987 could have led to.....A life with no Pet Shop Boys.
(As heard in ABOUT Pet Shop Boys)

I'd forgotten about that incident. Cheers for the reminder.

Actually, there was much talking about them splitting up in the english press in 1992 and 1993.
Nothing ever followed and Neil confirmed the 'Boys going on more or less forever many times since

I'm another one who loves the opening 'dance' sequence to the Fundie tour, ending with the Boys' handshake.

The fact that Neil's wish to make Release was not objected by Chris shows how strong they are bond and loyal to each other

That surprised me too. Didn't Chris have a fondness for an Oasis song or something at the time? Might be misremembering...

The handshaking is memorable for every PSB fan.
When I saw the handshake at Madrid I was really really proud.
I have to mention that on Cubism that moment is not reflected very well.. and it's too short in my opinion.

Didn't Neil claim that Release was Chris's 'brainwave'?
To be honest, I don't understand why people hate it so much. It still sounds like PSB to me.

I don't mind Release. I prefer it to Bilingual. It's an Autumnal or winter album.
I think they trust each other so much and trust the people around them to do things properly. The lyrics are on another plain to anyone else. They are both very intelligent, therefore, always sound fresh. They also have huge respect from major artists. Not a lot of groups can say the same.
They don't make absurd remarks in the press. A few two faced comments now and again, but the press seem to respect them hell of a lot. They are also in the papers for the right reasons, not fuelled with drugs and in and out of rehab. They have a rock solid relationship as friends and at work.

They don't even do a lot of solo stuff - I can't imagine a Neil Tenant album - which must signify that they are rock solid friends.

I got teary eyed when I saw this live, fabulous moment for sure.
