With the boys recently sigining a new contract it's inevitable that there will probably be ANOTHER "Greatest Hits" package released by the boys...
With this in mind i have put what i think would be the best tracklisting for a 1 CD set..
Any thoughts ???
1. West End Girls
2. Suburbia
3. It's A Sin
4. What Have I Done To Deserve This ?
5. Always On My Mind
6. Domino Dancing
7. So Hard
8. Being Boring
9. Can You Forgive Her
10.Go West
11.Se A Vida E
12.Somewhere
13.New York City Boy
14.Home And Dry
15.Flamboyant
16.I'm With Stupid
17.Integral
18.NEW SONG
19.NEW SONG

A 1 cd greatest hits will cause community warfare on here. We don't need one anyway. We already have 2 hits packages.
I think we will get Alternative 2, for sure.

Greatest Hits compilations aren't released to please Pet Shop Boys fans. They have a different (bigger) target audience. The inevitable GH cd will simply feature Pet Shop Boys' biggest hits (not necessarily their best songs) and it's likely to feature something from every studio album.
My guess would be:
01 West End Girls
02 Opportunities
03 Suburbia
04 It's A Sin
05 What Have I Done To Deserve This
06 Always On My Mind
07 Heart
08 Domino Dancing
09 Left To My Own Devices
10 Where The Streets Have No Name (unfortunately)
11 Can You Forgive Her
12 Go West
13 Se A Vida E
14 New York City Boy
15 Home And Dry
16 I'm With Stupid (possibly replaced by Integral)
17 New Song
18 New Song
Songs that SHOULD be on it, but won't be: Rent, Being Boring, Before, A Red Letter Day, Drunk and Flamboyant.

I would need to include 'Heart' cos it was a Number 1. I personnely make my own CD's to match my own taste so I don't care about what's on their CD's in running order.
I have what I call a 12" mix CD x3, hits CD, Besides CD, Chill out CD x2, Disco CD, Covers CD & Others CD...meaning by other groups, not PSB, very rare so only one of them.

Well, Rent, Before, Red Letter Day, Drunk and Miracles went top ten in the UK....
I'd remove New York City Boy from your list (with a rusty knitting needle!)

I'd take Miracles over New York city boy anytime. Miracles would be on it I feel, and possibly Before, which I'm not really a fan of. Rent would probably be included as well. They don't really have to have two new songs. Just one would suffice.

For a Greatest Hits I would just have top 10s:
01. West End girls
02. It's a sin
03. Always on my mind
04. Heart
05. What have I done to deserve this?
06. Go West
07. Left to my own devices
08. So hard
09. Where the streets have no name (I can't take my eyes off you)
10. It's alright
11. Domino dancing
12. Can you forgive her?
13. Before
14. Suburbia
15. Rent
16. Se a vida e (That's the way life is)
17. You only tell me you love when you're drunk
18. I'm with Stupid
19. A red letter day
20. Somewhere
21. Miracles
or
01. West End girls
02. Suburbia
03. It's a sin
04. What have I done to deserve this?
05. Rent
06. Always on my mind
07. Heart
08. Domino dancing
09. Left to my own devices
10. It's alright
11. So hard
12. Where the streets have no name (I can't take my eyes off you)
13. Can you forgive her?
14. Go West
15. Before
16. Se a vida e (That's the way life is)
17. A red letter day
18. Somewhere
19. You only tell me you love when you're drunk
20. Miracles
21. I'm with Stupid
21 tracks seems a bit much so it might need to be trimmed. Also, I don't think artists should have new songs on Greatest Hits! For a Singles Collection that includes all their singles then yes but not for a GH when the songs haven't even charted yet...

Left To My Own Devices must be included in any PSB greatest hits.

I would also remove New York city boy, but a PSB Greatest Hits is not only made for the (saturated) UK market. New York city boy was fairly successful in Europe.
For this reason, I could even imagine inclusion of
She's Madonna. It wasn't a big UK hit, but it did great in The Netherlands (#2), Germany (#3) and other European countries.

I think it might be a great idea: a 2xCD with CD1 as the best released and CD2 as the unreleased stuff.

Completely agree with dVTB. New York city boy is vile, but it's also the last real radio hit PSB had. Therefore it will be on the compilation which will go more or less like this:
West End girls
Opportunities
Suburbia
It's a sin
What have I done...
Heart
Always on my mind
Domino Dancing
So hard
Can you forgive her?
Go west
Se a vida e
New York City boy
Home and drieeeieeeieee
Minimal
One New Song
...except it will not be in chronological order, to hide the fact that the newer hits are sort of less hit-y and avoid the feeling of disappointment as the CD progresses.

Could someone please explain why a GH would be in the cards just 4 years after PopArt? I just don't see the point.
