Some hard truths..

Disco 4. Just what the hell is it all about?

Compare it to the original Disco from 21 years ago. Probably one of the coolest albums ever recorded in the history of Pop music.

Disco 2 isn't quite as bad as is potrayed but it certainly doesn't come close to the original Disco.

Disco 3 was great.

Disco 4? Sorry but it's a slap in the face to the PSB very loyal fanbase.

You can kind of imagine all this criticism pissing both Chris & Neil off. Chris really not giving a flying... and Neil probably feeling quite sensitive..

However, this isn't a time in their career to exploit their fanbase and to my mind that's what it is.

I have all the mixes but will buy it in order to get the Integral mix but really this Disco 4 is really, yet again, a huge wasted PSB/EMI opportunity.

Why is it exploitation? Who is being forced to buy it?

Here we go again...

How on earth are they exploiting their fanbase? Nobody forces you or anyone to buy the dreaded thing. Yes, the traclisting is crap and yes, it is disappointing. Solution: don't buy. How is that exploitation?! It is *your* decision.

Same with Release, they offered a choice of 'colours', some drama queens bought all formats and complained ad nauseum about it.

Jeez, when will people own up and take responsibility for their own actions and choices. Neil and Chris are hardly putting a gun to our heads to buy it, are they?

I think the majority of folks will buy this anyway. Knee jerk reactions and all that but i can see the frustration. The release is lazy and thats very much out of context for PSB. I think they need to start adding tracks and quick. At least 3 or 4 old (or even new) PSB songs.

At least give us a few new tracks, boys.

I think a lot of fans will buy this, but not feel especially excited by the prospect of it. PSB/EMI should know this and have thought better of it.

Disco 4 reminds me a little of Madonna's Remixed and Revisited EP, but that - at least - had an unreleased track.

Pet Shop Boys releasing an album using Pet Shop Boys remixes makes a lot more sense to me than them releasing an album of remixes done by other people.

The more I think about it though the less enthusiastic I'm becoming about it.

1. Using the electro mix instead of the extended dance mix of WOTI

2. Using the "There are no guitars on this" mix instead of the full "You are what you eat" mix

3. Not including their remix of Girls and Boys

4. I've never liked their remix of I'm with stupid though I can understand why it's on.

5. 8 tracks. They used 8 tracks for a bonus CD that was part of the last album.

I'll get it when it's going cheap.

The extended "Paninaro" hadn't been previously released in the UK, but that's not saying much, admittedly. More important, though, is that "In the Night" and the version latina of "Opportunities" had only previously appeared on the first release of "Opportunities," which virtually nobody bought. That, together with the fact that these tracks appeared on CD for the first time, made Disco a better value than Disco 4 is.

Hey wait a minute, I adore Disco 4 tracklisting! ......

Well, the Disco series is shaping-up to be a lot like the Star Trek films...only every other one is any good!

Sorry to correct you but:

1. In The Night - Arthur Baker Mix (unreleased mix)
2. Suburbia - The Full Horror (indeed released on Suburbia 12" but not on CD)
3. Opportunites - Version Latina (on Original remix 12" [12RA6097] but not on CD - In fact this mix is very slightly different to that 12")
4. Paninaro - Italian Remix (only on Italian 12" and not on CD)
5. Love Comes Quickly - Shep Pettibone Remix (Only on US 12", it was edited for the Suburbia 2x7" and some cassette editions, not on CD)
6. West End Girls - Shep Pettibone Remix, a different remix to the remix 12" [12RA6115]

So of the 6 tracks, only 2 had previously been issued in the UK in that version.
