So who felt the Earthquake then? I was at work and everything just shook and started falling but the noise was unreal. Quite scary but a pretty awesome experience.

I was asleep.

It woke me and Sam up. Being from Mexico city, she knew what it was of course. It's the first time I've really felt one, despite having visited Mexico five times.

Was it the first time the earth moved for you, Dave?

Amazingly, didnt feel a thing. I was working too.

I read about it on teletext at breakfast, but never felt a thing.

I was at work and I thought a lorry had crashed into our office, my wife was in bed and she said the house shook and she was holding onto the bed. No damage though thank heavens.

Earthquake Appeal

An Earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale hit Kingston-upon-Hull this Wednesday morning. Casualties were seen wandering around the city aimlessly saying “orrr me belongeens ar brock”, “worapend” and “orrr what da fook was dat bangin’ m8”.

The earthquake, which was felt around most of the country, decimated the area causing in excess of £17.55p worth of damage. Several priceless collections of mementos from Ibiza, Corfu, Skeggy and Blackpool were damaged beyond repair.

Many locals were woken before their Giro’s arrived. One resident, Kylie Sharon Smith, a 15 year old mother of four said “It was such a f**ckin shock, my little Chardonnay-Destiny came running into the bedroom crying; my hands were shaking that much I could hardly skin-up.”

The British Red Cross has so far managed to send 4000 crates of Sunny Delight to the area to help with the crisis. Rescue workers are still searching through the rubble and have found numerous “Elizabeth Duke at Argos” sovereign rings, benefit books and Pound Stretcher ornaments.

Initially, the amount of looting, mugging and car crime caused deep concerns for police, but fears of a long term reduction proved to be unfounded as shaken Chavs regained their confidence and once more returned to the streets where the looting and vandalism soon returned to normal.

How can you help?

This appeal hopes to raise money for food and clothing parcels for those unfortunate enough to be caught up in the disaster. Clothing is the most sought after. Urgently needed are Lacoste tracksuits, white socks, Burberry caps, Beanie hats and Rockports. Food parcels are also needed. They include McCain oven chips, Aldi Beans, Monster Munch and Iceland pizza. Alcohol is also in short supply, especially White Lightening Cider and Special Brew.

Cash donations are also needed….

* 22p buys a biro to help fill in a compensation form

* £2.00 buys chips, curry and blue pop for a family of nine

* £5.00 buys 20 B&H and a box of Swan Vestas to calm the nerves of a grieving 10 year old.

* £10 can give the whole family a much-needed boost by paying for them to take a day-trip to Withernsea. Whilst there, the children can put the trauma behind them and spend hours of fun playing with the rats amongst the discarded needles and used condoms on the beach.

Dipso in Tokyo, waiting for the earth to move

It was felt in Dumfries, which is about 45 miles away as the crow flies, but i didn't feel a thing.

First time I've ever experienced a quake as big as last nights, I've never known things inside the house rattle about before!

Fair to say it scared the life out of me, I suspect it was made worse by the fact that it happened at night (again), so for a few seconds upon being woken up and still being half asleep I had no clue what was happening.

The realisation of what is going on does sink in when you have woken up properly, and at that point last night (at least last night given stuff rattling around) I was worried about parts of the house falling down. It seemed to go on for ages last night, but I expect it wasn't more than 15 to 20 seconds with another 15 to 20 seconds as it tailed off.

Scary stuff!

Anyone know why out of the four quakes I can remember over here, three of them were in the middle of the night? Is there any reason for that, or is it just co-incidence?

um, when I was a kid living at home way back when I was awoken early in the morning by the sound of our pet parakeets going sh**thouse in their cage squawkin and flapping their wings. about 20 seconds after, a quake hit.

dont know how they knew something was about to happen but they did. I miss
sprinkles and boom boom. they gave alot of love for a couple parakeets.,much more than snails lets put it that way.

I never knew earthquakes could reach where I live in NY. I thought they were a california thing.
