Oh they are shite! I am so tired of them, especially Bono with his preaching about the world's hunger problem and everything there is wrong with this planet.

No they won't! All Bono is interested in is possibly becoming a politician one day.

U2 have created some genius pieces of work and are one of the best live bands of all time. Just because they have tons of money coming in because a lot of people like them doesn't mean they shouldn't handle it properly.
They come off as overly concerned about their popularity, but that's the type of music they're interested in. PSB also care a lot about chart positions and popular successes, and I think they'd do a lot of what U2 do if they had the chance.
That said, their last 2 albums were phoning it in, sort of 'let's make some money and sing about life and love'. Pop was a disaster, although they were attempting something extraordinary, and Zooropa was just an in-between album. So it's been 17 years since their last great album. If this next one continues their generic rock path, I'll give up on them. They have always surprised and exceeded expectations though, virtually creating new genres with The Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby. So I'm hopeful it could reestablish them critically and artistically.
And how can anyone hate Bad or The Fly?
