I manage a couple of shopping arcades and peoples behaviour on escalators is unbelievable, the number of people who go down with pushchairs and prams rather than waiting a minute or so for the lift is crazy. Of course what happens is that they cannot get off in time and a pile up ensues. The worse thing I see, and it is a regular occurence, is parents who let their kids (normally toddlers) go up and down unsupervised and/or stand behind them whilst the child sits on the steps with their fingers stretched out

They use to scare me as a kid. Don't know if anyone can remember but there was an advert about the dangers of them and some kid wearing wellies got his foot sucked into the steps.

I wish I hadn't seen this video.

Maybe he fell due to the effects of this explosion in Canada today...

I think in some cases as far as people in wheelchairs alot of them have an attitude of wanting to rise above their handicap and have a sense of doing what non-handicapped people do and not be regated to finding the elevators,or lifts as you call them, so they try and see if they can find a way to do it.

unfortuatly for that poor guy he wasnt successful.

I remember going up and down them in my local M & S when I was about seven, and an assistant telling me that they have to call an ambulance out at least once a day to rescue kids that get stuck in it !
Thing was, they nearly always WAS an ambulance there every day, but it was nearly always for some old biddy that had fallen and not for kids.

I feel sick, much like I would if I saw an episode of "funniest home videos". I wonder if this guy knows his humiliation has been witnessed 47,000 plus times, poor bugger.

You do gotta be careful on escalators. This one time I had a food trolley with three rockmelons that rolled out, and down the surface of the escalator like bowling balls toward a group of people at the bottom.. not sure why but I found it incredibly funny at the time. No one got hurt, thank goodness.

While on this fascinating subject.. is it just me or does anybody else downunder get really annoyed with people who stand in the middle of the escalator so you can't walk down if you're in a hurry. I remember in the UK people stand to one side, and the hurrying people are able to pass on the other side. So much more sensible don't you think?

No, not really. People here in Finland also stand on the right side of escalators, like a bunch of muppets. Why should we all move aside for people who hurry thru' life?
