Xenomania and Saint Etienne

"First up, we're releasing a 'new' single - or more precisely, a Xenomania-produced re-make of a 'lost' single. It's BURNT OUT CAR, and it'll be out in early September.
Mark Brown has done a very seasonal Balearic mix, and
there will be three new b-sides to boot: River is the 7", Destroy The Building and Night Vision are on CD1. Mr Brown's work will appear on CD2."

I don't mind a bit of St Et especially their dancier songs.

I think of St. E as a distant relative of the PSB, and I like Burnt Out Car. Won't buy the new greatest hits (as I already have the two previous ones) but will look out for the single.
It's criminal that St. E have never had a major hit single.

Yeah, He's On The Phone in particular deserved to be a top five hit. Quite why Saint Etienne are releasing yet another Greatest Hits is beyond me, though. When you consider that PSB have only released two despite their immense back catalogue, it certainly reeks of milking the fans to the extreme. Smash The System is a pretty definitive collection of their best work already.

That's nothing. The most audacious greatest hits collections are the one-hit wonders who pad out a greatest hits with number 62 smashes.

PS I love how He's On The Phone was borne out of the desire for a collaboration because the person shares half their name - Neil Tennant's Francais fave Etienne Daho of course, and the record was officially billed as Saint Etienne Daho.
With that in mind, could PSB do something similar?
How about Pet Shop Boyz II Men doing a mash-up called End Of The Road, End Of The World. Flipside can be I'll Make Love To You Only Tell Me You Love Me When You're Drunk.
Or Pet Shop Boyzone joining forces for So Good, So Hard. And on the B-side, No Matter What Have I Done To Deserve This?
Or Pet Shop Boys Town Gang doing a U2 cover and mixing it with Can't Take My Eyes Off You. Oh, hang on...

You're so right. What do you think is the reason behind it?
It's not as if they have to keep replacing their rubber leotards every other week, is it?
