I suspect many governments have been doing that for a while...we're just slowly finding out...it's really sad. The citizens are losing power...power is knowledge...and knowledge is freedom.

@If you've done nothing wrong..............' and so on.
It really is getting beyond a joke now, I thought this country was bad enough, the good thing is the French are more likely to have the balls to do something about it

When I was a kid I wondered what it would be like if the world started to go downhill; to end. I'm not sure if I'm experiencing it now, but it doesn't take a genius to recognize how shitty everything has become. The environment, sustainability, governments, etc. But it could also be that we're becoming more aware and that perhaps the world has been shitty a while and now we're beginning to notice and maybe do something about it. I think that's all one can hope for.

The "V for Victory" scenario will soon be upon us ......
I do have faith in the general public of this country, that when push comes to shove, we will refuse to take it anymore.

Life is always hard. What must it have been like to live through two world wars?

this talk springs up everynow and then about privacy and the loss of rights via big brother.
worry less about the government targeting you to investigate whatever perverted things your doing online that make one so fearful of big brother, and worry more about regular civilian computer genuises and hackers and identity thieves.
they should be your concern.not the government.
I see posts on the internet always forever going on about the USA becoming a police state.
the truth of the situation is there in the details.
for instance a couple months back someone actually blew up a military recruiting shack in the middle of times square...... times square.
they cant find the guy.no idea. patriot act,big brother police state.clueless.
the anthrax mail guy, killed people using the Gov postal service.they dont know who it is.
osama bin laden, major event in US history...well you know...satellites,tracking devices, predator drones, mercenarys ....cant find him.
your working yourselves up over concepts.reality however, is alot more banal.

I posted examples than run counter to the ideas the US is a police state. what could you possibly say when a country is shown so lacking in police state capabilities.

Well, I think that any "Big Brother" type spying systems are actually interested in totally different things...

This reminds me so much how the top members of the former political police in my country gained and consolidated their power, including the economical one. What Sarkozy is trying to set up now has been existing in Romania for a long time; it was created during the Communist years and never ceased existing. The real force running my country is the Securitate, just like in Russia is the (ex-) KGB. Very inspiring, I think for every chief of State having rich and influential friends. The terrorist menace is a reality, but it is overestimated as it is such a good pretext.
