Seriously worried about my knee

My knee is still playing me up. Still on antibiotics four times a day and still in effect recovering from the operation to clean the infection out. Ever since the operation my knee has been dressed daily because it is still leaking fluid. Today when they changed the dressing it was almost dry and I was beginning to think it was nearly fully healed. Tonight I look at the dressing for the first time in 12 hours and the dressing is saturated and the plastic 'op site' covering has collected a lot of fluid that the dressing could no longer absorb. It's about my luck, I think things are going well then things go wrong again. I am now worried about whether it will heal up at all, especially given that it has now been three weeks since they did the operation and it was far from a big incision to have to heal. God knows what happens then, but I am sure it won't be good.
I'm trying to keep my spirits up, but it is getting harder and harder. I'm now feeling more like it might be a very unhappy new year for me.

ugh.sorry to hear this news. cant pretend I know things will work out alright, but I'm always amazed when I read things online about situations where the body has a way of recovering from this or that major traumatic injury.maybe not on the expected timetable though.
but I do find it hard to believe it wont ever heal.I dont think I've heard of something never ever healing as far as that type of injury.

I mean won't heal before I have to go back to hospital for the check up. If it were healed by then and there were no sign of infection and I could walk around OK then I'm sure I'd be back at work the next day and everything returns to normal. I can't see it miraculously getting to that point in 7 days though.
They very nearly didn't let me out for Christmas because of this leaking, so if it is still doing it by next Tuesday when I see them again in my outpatients appointment they're going to be concerned, I know they will, and I have no idea where that leads, but it could be re-admitting me, and worst case scenario my whole prosthesis has to (temporarily) come out and that really is the worst thing that could happen.
I'm probably getting well ahead of myself on that last point, but I don't have good luck where this knee and the hospital is concerned and I have come to expect the worst over the years. It's just so terribly depressing in the mean time though... No work, no money, no Doncaster Rovers FC (that's a lot worse for me than it sounds!) and I don't doubt a more and more pissed off employer.

That's bad news, but you're lucky I'm a clairvoyant. Let me see, ah, your knee will be 100% better in a few hours. And you should know my predictions are extremely accurate down to the nearest month.
Chin up, I hate life and I bet a bum knee is better than that! It'll turn out all right in time.

Knee's!
Don't know what caused your problems, Steve but i had an operation when i was 16 because of damaged knee ligaments. Ten years later, i had the cartilage removed and now i cannot do a lot of running or walking because it collects fluid and swells up.Use to play a lot of golf but can't play a great deal now and cannot play football outfield anymore, i've had to don the keeper gloves! Had a few problems after both ops but nothing like yours but it does get better. You get more problems with knees because all the pressure goes on them. Good luck anyway.

That is really horrible news Steve. What type of surgery did you have on your knee? I am fixing to say I should have recommended my doctor to you, I had three different surgeries with this doctor and never had any issues. I am so sorry this is all happening to you.

I had a replacement titanium knee prosthesis put in in 1997 due to bone cancer. We're not talking about one of those little plastic things that they put in for arthiritis either, it replaces probably 50% of the bone either side of my knee. I'm just so annoyed that things have gone so horribly wrong this last 6 months after being relatively problem free since 1997.

Sorry to hear about this Steve, not sure I can offer any advice other than keep your chin up and remember that you've got a lot of people on here rooting for you.

Come to France and get it sorted over here!!!!
My dad is having a heart op today in the UK even though he was told 3 weeks ago he needed it done, he has a valve 99% blocked ffs!! 1% away from a certain heart attack!! Believe me that in France it would have been done the day they knew about it, not risking a heart attack like they have. My wife is a doctor and she was shocked by the wait.
On a side note it didn't stop him coming with me to see Pompey get thrashed 4-1 by West Ham on boxing day, The quality of football on show from Pompey may have actually had a positive effect on his heart if you know what I mean!!
The NHS is such a joke, I worked in a private hospital for a few years before going to France and I was basically at the stage of my life where I had the choice of starting a training course which had to be done at an NHS hospital or giving it all up and moving abroad, I think I took the correct choice!
The horror stories I have heard would push anybodies heart to the limits.
Anyway all the best Steve and I am sure that eventually it will all sort itself out. Just make sure you take no shit from the doctors though, although I am sure you don't.

Wish you a prompt recovery, -though doesn't seem like it right now-.
I was raised a Christian. On Oct., when the Dr. told my I crushed L1 vertebrae I couldn't believe it, I'd been through tough situations before, but never imagined being on a wheelchair. Anyways, no car, high deductible insurance, and an employment situation. I literally put everything in God's hands, yes, I'm a control freak, but it was too much.
Turns out my car ins had med coverage benefit (All State) & covered the deductible portion for a total of $300 K on med bills! The pain was unbearable for a month, but guess what, my back feels better and stronger than ever! (no side effects at all) On a side note, now I have the car of my dreams.
My point being it never hurts to put everything in God's hands, I call it faith instead of luck. And I'm still and will always be a Christian no matter what.
Best wishes Steve.
