So, its Feb 1st already. What plans have you got on the 14th, for that special someone? :D

My situation & plan.
I know this girl i like. been thinking about how to put it across to her.
So, i've got this ambient instrumental of Heart.. thought i'd record my vocals on it and mail to her.. (the other song i've considered is Always on My Mind) geeky, i know, but thats the only way to avoid a slap on the face i guess! :wall:

That's quite a sweet gesture, Vince. I'm sure she'll love it. Definitely go for Heart over Always on my mind, particularly as an ambient version will carry a real romantic and sensual vibe.

As for me, I'm not sure what plans I have yet. I'm a season ticket holder at Southend United and we're at home to Tranmere that day but I can't see my girlfriend going for that! So, probably some quality time together during the day, a meal in the evening and maybe a trip to the Comedy Store in Soho.

The trouble with being in a long-term relationship - as comedian Michael McIntyre points out in a brilliant stand-up routine here http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=CLPyPJTwEC4 - is that if you're the romantic type (and I like to think I am), then you have to surpass yourself every year and it gets harder and harder. Admittedly, McIntyre is talking about anniversaries rather than Valentine's Day but it's the same principle.

My girlfriend is away in her native Israel at the moment and when I spoke to her on the phone this morning she quoted a message I wrote for her in a card for our first anniversary, and asked me why I don't express my feelings like that to the same extent anymore. She was joking (I think!) but it does epitomise the struggle I mention above. Hopefully I'll come up with the goods, though!

My husband and I decided a long time ago that we weren't going to bother with Valentine's Day. We already do nice, romantic things for eachother all year long; why feel obligated to do it on a particular day?

Then again, his birthday is the day afterward ;) , so we'll probably end up doing something celebratory.

Vince, I think your idea is sweet! Let us know how it goes.

we have a room booked and a reservation at a nice restaurant at the casino near us with a nice view of niagra falls.

good luck vince.I would also send flowers.its old fashioned but single women love getting flowers on valentines day, especially if they recieve them in front of others.most women like to appear to others as if they have someone pursuing them if they are single on valentines day.

hey kris that bit he did about a married couple coming up with a list of 5 people each could have sex with if they ever met them cracked my sh^t up!

Valentine's Day is nothing more than artificial nonsense. You don't need a "special day" concocted by Cadbury's or some greeting card company to express how you feel for somebody - unless you're a sheep or somebody susceptible to ostentatious displays of affection for public consumption.

Seriously, I cackle to myself every Valentine's Day when I see some schmuck braving public opprobrium to buy a huge bunch of flowers for his other half.

This whole "going for a meal" nonsense is a gift for restaurants bequeathed to them by the insecure. Actually, the more I think about it, I'd be mortified to be in a restaurant on Valentine's Night. I'd rather be at home alone with the one I love. And I will be.

Drico.

it must be great having such a life where one can totally ignore societys conventions, but some of us have to play the game because when it comes to "gettin some" you have to play by the rules sent down from generation to generation.

and valentines day you have to take em somewhere nice and give them something nice not unlike a ritual where the people offered a sacraficial virgin to a vocano God.

Yes, I imagine Valentine's Day chez Ridge to be somewhat like The Wicker Man.

^LoL!

@Drico: Like Glenn said, we wish we could juts get away from society's customs.. but thats the way it goes. I'll be if you had your way, there'd be no New Years Day even! ;) "New Years Day is just a big marketing phenomenon" is what you'd say ;)
It doesnt matter what you do on the other 364 days.. she wont remember it.. but what you do on Valentines will be stuck to her ;)

@Kris: Thanks! and all the best with your plans :)
Nice comedy clip BTW! :)

@Territorygal: cool :) have a nice time :)

@Glenn: hope it works out.. but i think i'll save flowers for her birthday ;)

I must admit that myself and the hubby don't do valentines day either. I'm with Drico on this one.

I am planning to go the Matinee of a rare Steven Sondheim show 'Saturday Night' at the Jermyn St Theatre. The Sondheim Society has organised this as a group booking and it falls on my weekend off work (one weekend off in three only). I would have been happy just going along with the group, however, as it is Valentine's Day I thought my ex could come along too! (Still share home with him). I had one memorable Valentine's Day a few years ago with an unexpected meal in my flat with the same friend and 'My Funny Valentine' by Ella Fitzgerald playing on the CD. Yes, I need to get out more and find someone new but I don't mind things the way they are sometimes. At least I have company (pun intended all Sondheim fans out there).

Yes, about the flowers, it's all about showing off the amount of expensive roses one can get...I mean, it's true. For Valentine's, hopefully go to Paris with my current date
