Anyone just watch new Red Dwarf?

Some questions / points:

No laughter track - somehow not right without it.

Red Dwarf ship - how come it is perfectly intact given how the last series ended (ship being eaten away by acid-y stuff).

Rimmer - how come he is a hologram again?

OK, so no Christine Kochanski (sp?), but where's Holly?

Definitely huge holes in the plot since the last time we saw them and to have no explanation seems a little strange... Not terribly funny yet either. Hope tomorrow's hits form.

I thought it was pretty good. I agree it was strange without canned laughter, however it's probably better without it.
I'm hoping it picks up with episode 2, although I can't see further episodes being commissioned from this so far, as much as I'd like to.

It was mentioned that Holly is currently offline due to the bath water incident.

Well that was much better than I expected. Great :D I even got used the absence of the audience laughter by the end.

Nope. 3 new episodes - 'Return to Earth', broadcast on the free digital channel 'Dave' here in the UK over Easter. I believe they're coming out on DVD soon. I hope the remaining two episodes do get funnier as it was some way off classic Red Dwarf last night.

I see on the Red Dwarf and Dave website forums a lot of people are saying the same - no explanation of what happened since the last episode of series 8, and not amazingly funny yet.

Oh my god, that was so bad I can't believe it. How could the cast even bring themselves to be involved in episode 2. What a complete waste of time and money. Poo poo poo!!!

More laughs tonight, but the story - well, it almost seems like Naylor is laughing at the real Red Dwarf fans.

Yeah a bit so so, so far!
It's a shame cos the first 8 series were pretty good!
It would be a shame to end in such a shambles so let's hope episode 3 will leave it open!

Hmm, it was alright so far, but personally I always perferred the original crappy old sets and the rough around the edges approach. I have never been as keen since they made it look high tech and bright- it's just not the same. I much preferred it when Rob Grant was involved in the writing too.

Some nice toughes and some funny bits, but the plotline is a little, um... :?

I just hope that a new series gets commissioned- I used to love that show.

Better, and good to have an explanation of WTF the whole thing was about (in true Naylor 'confuse and mislead the f*** out of you' style, I'll give him that), although personally I thought the Coronation Street idea was poor. The whole thing would have worked far better played as a 90 minute one off.

It is a shame though to have to admit my biggest laugh tonight was the Mikado advert photocopy incident in the break!

According to form, we've all got to buy the DVD now to pay for a series 10. I will as long as they get Holly back (Norman is not a happy man, and I think that could be hard work!) and bring back a laughter track. Not sure a live audience is possible any more with all the CGI, which is a shame as they always played up for the audience in previous series. It's still a little odd having no laughter though.

Wow I didn't realize it was already happening. I'll have to find a place to download this - won't be broadcast in Denmark for the next 5 years I expect.

Thank God there's no Kochanski.
