Hi there.
The Prodigy (I like them) are playing live in my Town in July.
Is it worth going to their gig?
Listening to their songs on CD must be very different to listening (and watching) them live.
I am a quiet 39 y.o., and I have many doubts about going to this live gig, I don't want to waste time & money.
Any hint/advice?

I wanted to go to a Prodigy gig, i'm 35 very very quiet and shy, and from what i have seen on tv and heard from people, the crowd go mad and start moshing jumping around like animals. It's a million miles from the behaviour at a PSB gig and unless you want that going on all around you i'd say no. I wouldn't go to that much as i like them

That new single sounds like something they would have done in 1992....

Apparently, Ive seen them 4 times!

I got my other half tickets to see The Prodigy last month at the NIA in Birmingham. I played it safe and got seated tickets. He was very disappointed ... always stands with me at my gigs, why won't I do the same for him? Er cos the crowd will not be civilised and friendly like at my choice of gigs! I offered to swap them for standing tickets and was relieved when he said no.

When we got there it all seemed pretty civilised and he kept pointing out how we would have been OK standing. He soon changed his mind when Dizzee Rascal came on ... it turned into a massive mosh pit! And as you can imagine was worse for The Prodigy. I have never seen so many fans hauled out by the security and chucked out of one gig. Other half admitted I had been right about seated!

I don't rate them at all. But verdict of my other half is that he is glad he has seen them live, but they are not a good live act ... Liam Howlett is very talented but not an entertainer. Also the sound was so loud it hurt and meant you couldn't actually appreciate the music, he would far rather have stayed home and listened to the CD.

So on balance my advice would be. If you've never seen them before, it would be good to go, but only if you can keep out of the mosh pit! It was not pleasant down there. Even in the seated area we got covered in beer ... just thankful that's all it was!

PS He will be standing with me at the O2 next month

After reading your posts, I decided NOT to go.
There are only standing tickets, and I don't want to stay in the middle of a battlefield.

You should go. It is an experience in itself. 90 or so minutes of pure hands in the air/dance like you've never danced action.

Yup, that is my one bug bare about going to concerts, it drives me mad when the volume it so loud that it literally drowns out the vocals and little nuances of the music and distorts to the point of pain. That's my one reservation about the Manchester Apollo next month, the acoustics are awful in there compared to many other venues, I just hope they can get the balance right this time.
