The new season is almost upon us, so I feel it is time to start the thread for this season.

To kick the thread-off, some sad news:Sir Bobby Robson, R.I.P..

Didn't realise how good a record he had in football. A genuine bloke and will always be a legend.

I saw a bit of that charity game the other day and was shocked at how bad he looked. I turned over when Craig David replaced Peter Beardsley.

Yeah i agree, he looked very poorly. He has done for some time but he showed great courage to support his charity by turning out in public looking like that. It's sad to see someone so frail but he still appeared in public.

The fantasy football has started again. Who's entering?

If there was one team that could have taken me away from my beloved Liverpool, it would have been that amazing Ipswich Town team he had.

John Wark, Arnold Muhren, Alan Brazil, Eric Gates & Paul Mariner remember these names fondly when i was a child of around 10.

And he was a true gent of a person, will be missed lots in the football world.

A little worried for Doncaster Rovers chances this season. We've let two of our three 'crown jewels' (IMHO) go. Richie Wellens to Leicester and Matt Mills to Reading. All we've signed so far is triallists. A bit disappointing. I hope they have some serious irons in the fire before the transfer window closes as I am a little concerned. I'm not sure we're strong enough to stay up as it stands.

Dorchester Town are top of the league!

Well, I fancy spurs for the FA cup. Harry is the man to take us back there, we were a bit unlucky in the carling cup final this year, losing to man utd on penalties!?!? Crouch should be an interesting buy, we may even finish above Aresenal for the first time since about 1961!?!

As long as Man City or Chelsea don't win the league i'm happy. I'm really against clubs winning the premiership on the back of a big cheque book. Man utd or Liverpool for the league.

United have spent as much as anyone in recent years though. No other English club has as many players that cost more than £15m.

That's why Man United and Chelsea have been more succesful than the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and you can throw Spurs into it, too. The latter 3 teams spend their money on 3 or 4 players, United and Chelsea throw most of it on 1 world class player. Liverpool and Arsenal usually buy good solid players though, Spurs just waste millions on dross, although hopefully, that looks like changing with Redknapp buying the right players for the right position.

For the past 5 or so years now, Spurs have been tipped to achieve all sorts of things. It's not happened. However, there seems to be a realism setting in that a Champs League place isn't going to happen. Maybe that will benefit them because Spurs do have a good squad.

I think Chelsea or Liverpool will win the league. United aren't going to replace Ronaldo's goals and i'm still not convinced by several of their players ;- Evra, Carrick, Vidic, Valencia is a risk, Nanin and Anderson aren't good players.

Chelsea look solid all over. Liverpool might be also a bit short of quality at the back but Torres and Gerrard are two world class players.

I think Aston Villa and Blackburn will both do well. I don't think Everton will have as good a season but will be top half, along with Sunderland and Fulham in mid table.

Bottom half but safe ;-

West Ham, Stoke and Bolton,

Relegation battle will be between Wigan, Hull, Birmingham, Pompey, Burnley and Wolves.

Don't think i've missed anyone out!

If Portsmouth don't get relegated, I'll listen to Union Street.

Once again, the Premiership will be as dull as ever with only the biggest spending teams contesting the title. It's between the Scum, United and Liverpool, although Liverpool desperately need to sign somebody like Villa. At least Real Madrid's spending spree may mean that there are only two English clubs in the Champions League semis this season. As ever the Championship will be a zillion times more exciting.

Spurs will come sixth, Harry will sign about ten players come the transfer window, and they'll have a good Mickey Mouse Cup run. Deja vu.

First manager to be sacked: 'Sparky' Hughes.

Could be a good shout about Hughes. Away from home, i think Man City will struggle. Although i had a free £100 bet and i put it on City at 20/1 to win the league.

First boss to go could be Phil Brown. I get the impression nobody likes him. No player wants to go there and even though Hull isn't the most appealing place to live, they are still a Prem side. I reckon it's Brown thats the problem.

I think Phil Brown dragging his poor excuse for a team over to the Hull end against Blackburn? last season was the best thing a manager has done for years. They played to their potential, then went shit. He had to do something. It's up there with Cloughie cuffing the pitch invaders back in th 80's.
