Hello! I thought I would make you all aware of this! I had a "lovely" phone call this morning. It was from the Security Fraud Squad belonging to my bank! Someone very nice has gone S.H.O.P.P.I.N.G with my credit card without me knowing. (I don't really use my card that's how my bank knew).

Please all check your statements and be careful! This has shocked me as I am very, very careful with my cards. I'm am very and How low can one go?

Can you remember what you've used your card for recently then ? It might be possible for them to trace it back to where it was compromised ?

Thank you for your reply! I'm still shocked about it. I have got an *idea* about where it could have happened but, I don't think I can prove it as I don't know much about the pin and chip machines.

Sorry to hear that. My mum's details got stolen once and it was used in Greece! You have to be so careful...

You won't need to prove anything, just let the bank and the police know where you "think" it may have happened and let them do the rest. It could be that the shop it happened in has had quite a few complaints of this happening and yours will be needed as evidence.

For example ... There was a restaurant near me where one of the staff were copying credit card details down and using them to buy plane tickets!
After a few people notified the police that their cards were being used by someone else, they traced back all the transactions and their common theme was this particular restaurant .... Needless to say it was a pretty open and case and the culprit was prosecuted.

Mine was done by the postman losing a bag of post(he had it stolen from a drop off point) the post had credit card statements these were past on to a third party who used them 2 months later over the phone 4 got blocked 2 items where purchased.
This I was informed about by the credit card on line fraud. The reason I did not know straight way was that I had not used the cards when the statements should have arrived so they would read zero balance. But as you all know Stupid Banks put all your details on the Statement so all your card details are on them apart from the 3 digit security number.
I now use post-less statements.
Two people were arrested and other items from the post were found but as there was a third person in the property they could not prove it was them,and bank info had already been past on to the Third party.
So if you can go paper-less statements and remember when your statements are due even if you have not used them/it you will still get statements.

This has happened to a friend of mine... twice. On both occasions she has had her account emptied by transactions in India. It turned out her local garage (in the UK) had been cloning customers' cards and lots of other people in the area were similarly affected so it was relatively easy for the authorities to track the culprits down. The bank should give you all the money back.

Which bank is it? Some are better at handling it than others.

A couple of years ago somehow a payment of £1,000 to Egg PLC (an online bank/finance company) was taken from my debit card via a 'cardholder not present' transaction, even though I have never, ever had anything to do with Egg. To this day I still don't know the story, but at all times I had the card in my possession and as far as I am aware had not compromised the card details at any time.

It took a while to get the money back, and in the mean time I was incurring overdrawn charges because the £1,000 had taken my account way into overdrawn territory. It was all sorted in the end, but I wasn't very happy at my bank for letting a payment of that size come out of my account (made worse by the fact it took my current account well beyond agreed overdraft amounts instead of the transaction being declined) without common sense alarm bells ringing. They were left in no way unclear that I don't ever want a 'cardholder not present' transaction for that kind of money to ever again be authorised on my debit card.

Barclays are quite good at trying to prevent card theft. Mine has been stopped on a couple of occasions, one just after I started Uni. I can see why they thought it was odd, my card being used in sussex one minute then in plymouth the next! It's just a bit of a palava having to sort it out so they unblock your card..

A couple of months before my gran died, her bank details were compromised and someone spent £300 in 'The Rangers Store'. SCUM!!!

Hi, thank you for your help and advice. Sorry, to hear that quite a few of you on here have had the same problem. Sorry, to hear some of you have had to wait a while to get your money back and had agro over it.

I'm with the TSB and they are trying their best to help me. I'm waiting for some paperwork to arrive - they said they are hoping to get me my money back ASAP. It is weird as we only changed to using credit cards a couple of months ago. If it was my old "swipe" card I used I would have had to pay all the money back.
