OMD - New Album & Tour

Has anyone else been watching the progress of this? A new album 'History Of Modern' and supporting tour later this year!

The new album has been recorded with the original classic line up of Paul Humphreys, Andy McCluskey, Mal Holmes & Martin Cooper.

A demo of one of the new songs from the album is available to download for free from their OS. Andy & Paul also appeared on BBC 6 Music the other night and another finished song from the album was also played 'History Of Modern Part 2'.

Both these tracks are superb! the demo song was actually written in 1981 but they never released it because it sounded quite like Enola Gay....which it does, but this is not to detract from the fact that it is still a brilliant pop song so they thought they might as well re-work it for the new album!

I saw OMD support Simple Minds last year at the N.E.C. OMD's sound was brilliant, they played all the old classics, and it actually felt good to be listening to those tracks again. I will definatley get the new album.

P.S Simple Minds.... crap, boring, left after about 30mins of their set. ! :)

I've got the new OMD album now!

Only one listening so far, but a few of the songs I had previously heard on Youtube. Considering that the whole band - at least officially - has reunited, the album sounds very little like the early 80's OMD. It sounds more like McCluskey's solo "OMD" output from the 90's.

For a start, all songs are sung by Andy, and I can't even hear Paul's voice anywhere on the album. And I really wonder what Cooper's and Holmes' contributions are to this album; the pictures in the booklet show just Andy & Paul, and the DVD interviews also features only the duo (except for a short live snippet). It's not really the "original line-up comeback" it is said to be.

What do others here think about History of Modern?

I am angry that here in the US we can't get the bonus tracks of "Alone" and "Idea 1"!! WTF?
Could someone who has them private message me and maybe we can work out a trade or way for me to pay you for the tracks?
I would love mp3s of both tracks.

thanks,
Larry

Bonus tracks on the album? They are just B-sides, according to Wikipedia:

On the other hand you've got "Save me", which is not on my copy of the album.

I don't think OMD have really made many good video's and this latest video is really, really poor. What's supposed to be going on?

Old age must have set-in, then, as that is the last thing you could have accused them of in their heyday.

the new album is alright. really disappointed that Paul H. doesn't sing lead on a few tracks as i was looking forward to that. wish they would do a small U.S. tour, but i wouldn't be surprised if that doesn't happen.
