There are two bands Ive always wanted to see live but never did.

One was New Order, the other 808 State.

Having seen footage of New Order live, Im sort of glad I havent whereas with 808, Id be gutted if I missed them again.

So the fab news that a date has been arranged in London in January and tickets booked

Anyone else going?

Am I asking too much for them to work with Neil and Chris?

I've always liked 808 State too and also wished they'd remixed PSB. The closest we ever got was a remix of Disappointed by Electronic.

I saw N.O. live just before they broke up again. I thoroughly enjoyed it (apart from being half crushed to death in the 'mosh pit'!), but for some reason I've never thought about seeing 808 State live.

I've seen them live 3 times. It's a decent show, and they'll quite often pull something obscure out of the back catalogue to perform. The highlight for me is a 9 minute long version of Pacific State.

They have just recently released a new compilation, titled 'Blueprint'. It steps away from the traditional greatest hits, in that it has very few of the singles on it, but instead has tracks from all albums and eras.

I bought Blueprint and was hoping to go to the January gig, but it's on a night I'm working so not sure I won't miss half of it

Blueprint is a fantastic collection - one of my albums of the year.

Agreed, Blueprint is marvellous.

808 are one of those Ive never been in the right place right time. Pure co-incidence I travel to London that night for a weekend and Im not letting it pass.

LOL but I am the boss, and I have to go to work. I might just go anyway, I think it unlikely I'll miss too much.

The 808 remix of Disappointed is stale. I like some 808 state, but that really shows their limits of applying their style to a dance remix.

I agree that the Disappointed remix isn't up to much. But it is by no means a barometer, by which to judge their remixing abilities.
My own opinion, of course, but Graham Massey is one of the UK's most underrated producers, and remixers, among the listening public. Although he is is well respected by those in the know. A little like PSB, in a way, in that the public don't appreciate the impact they have had, whereas the industry does.
