Well done. How did you get clearance and whats percentage did they demand for you to use their songs. I have never dared incase i got sued. Can you give me some advice who i need to contact to get clearance for the rights

Seriously what did you pay for the rights to the demos? Have you sent a link to the management?

You don't have to pay anything as long as it's a cover version and you declare that the writers of the songs are Neil and Chris.
You have to ask permission if you change the lyrics or if you take samples.
In this case your label decides with PSB management a percentage or/and a fee on the royalties you gain.

Exactly. Most people don't know this. You often hear stuff like "how could XXX allow for that shit act (often an X factor singer) to ruin their classic, etc.". What they don't realize is that you DON'T need permission to record a cover version. Nor do you pay anything. Unless you change the lyrics or alter the work in a significant way.

However, all publishing money (when the song gets played on the radio, etc) goes to the original writers of the track, of course.

BUT, I do believe you may be in trouble for recording All Things For All Men, as that has never been officially released in the past. Hopefully you'll have cleared that up. AFAIK only previously released songs can be covered without express permission.

But you still have to acquire the "mechanical rights" from the song publisher if it hasn't been released by anyone yet. Once it's been released by someone, then it's fair game and any one can do their own version.

Note, that this is for the U.S., other countries may differ

From the Wiki article - In the United States, while the right to use copyrighted music for making records for public distribution (for private use) is an exclusive right of the composer, the Copyright Act provides that once the music is so recorded, anyone else can record the composition/song without a negotiated license but on the payment of the statutory compulsory royalty. Thus, its use by different artists could lead to several separately-owned copyrighted "sound recordings".

I suppose the fact that a demo has been recorded and not released may put it into a gray area, but I'll leave that to a copyright law expert to determine.

The West End Girls made a cover of it and it was a single for them too.
This song was available on a bootleg cd and never saw the light of the day.
Officially it never existed.
All things to all men is in a better situation. it was available on the OS some years ago.
As long as it's been recorded (registered to a royalty collection agency) you can cover it. Doesn't matter if it's a demo or not.
