Daft Punk - Random Access Memories

OK I know this is slightly Off Topic but bear with me...
Neil has mentioned everyone is asking them about their thoughts on the new Daft Punk.
So it's interesting timing for the two album releases.
Having now listened to the DP album I can say it's very generic 70s funk.
It IS good. But anyone who thinks PSB don't evolve and innovate needs their heads checked.
It's funny timing, but the new Daft Punk seems amazingly derivatie. (while still good)
Elysium has a lot more thought, emotion, lyrics, observation and originality put into it - and it alone holds up well compared to Random Access Memories. Let alone the fact Electric is about to be released in a quick succession!

Daft are way overrated. They made French house into Pop music and their casual fans think they're hip and on the vanguard of the underground as a result.

RAM is the most disappointing album of 2013. Not to be nitpicky, but there's already a Daft Punk thread in the off-topic section.

Guess I was more commenting Pet Shop Boys comparisons and the timing.

Heard the first single/video (wherever) it's called. Not my cup of tea. To be honest I got really sick of them back when "Around the World" was played to death in the clubs... a way overrated track IMHO.
It seems to me that most of their fame rested on their super-compressed kick drum sounds,

well I think it rocks. I think they went a bit overboard with the vocoders...but when the first track started up,the effortless joy of "give life back to music", as I was listening to the singer sing over that beautiful melody I was secretly wishing neil and chris would do something retro along the lines of this one. also the "lose yourself to dance" track. daft punk, while on one hand being an electric artist along the lines of the PSB manage to do what PSB probably just isnt good at...sounding funky.

It's Daft Punk by numbers. They haven't evolved thier sound in over 13 years now.
Are they Bon Jovi?

New Daft Punk album = underproduced, 70's-disco tribute, without the hooks
To quote PE: "Don't believe the hype." I didn't expect new One More Time, Aerodynamic or Music Sounds Better With You (which I know was made by a half of Daft Punk), but this isn't even in the same ballpark.

I LOVE RAM! It's album of the year. It's beautiful, it's haunting, it's melancholic, it's adult pop, it has rich textures, and it's a MASTERPIECE!

I think Daft Punk do great revival music, like a sort of cover band while Pet Shop Boys do music that comes from their own past updating it from time to time.

I heard the whole thing last week at Virgin. My review will be in the next issue of Classic Pop, which is also reviewing Electric of course. And the DP album IS a bit overrated,. It's basically a great lsot Chic album. The new Empire of the sun album is MUCH better. Although there is one track on Daft Punk called Beyond, which is AMAZING.

In what sense? They are two completely different beasts, i believe RAM is not a banging dance album but the kids will lap up whatever Daft Punk put out because of the hype.
