that really sucks. what an actor...what a fantastic series "the sopranos". his charcater tony soprano probably is as iconic as tony montana from scarface.
he was a great character actor also. he was also finally breaking free from that role and moving on. he also is known as a person who helped with many charitys. sad day for the movies! RIP james

He was very good in "The Last Castle" if anyone wishes to sample his non-Sopranos work.

Interestingly enough, I just saw Killing Them Softly and True Romance, which I hadn't seen since it was in theatres 20 (!) years ago. I highly recommend both movies. Really talented actor. R.I.P.

I'm surprised how shocked and gutted I felt reading the news- I actually got a bit weepy once it had sunk in. He was only 51, and he and his wife just had a baby girl in October. RIP to a very fine actor and by all accounts, an incredibly good guy. "The Sopranos" changed American television for the better, showing what serious drama can do, in a format that was always considered second-class to movies. And look at the trash in theaters now- television is where it's at, "The Sopranos" inspired so many great dramas on television we have now, and "The Sopranos" itself would not be what it was without the talents of James Gandolfini. I feel crushed at the sad news. Best to his family.
