Lately I've been drawn to the Elvis reissues that RCA are doing, they are really lavish and so much care goes into them. In particular, last year's "Prince From Another Planet" (Madison Square Garden). After reading a rave review on Super Deluxe Edition and finding it for so cheap on amazon, I received it in immaculate condition (which for amazon is quite a feat) and I just watched the dvd with press conference and vintage 8mm film of the show itself and it was electrifying. Even considering the graininess of the film adding mystique, seeing this guy on stage in the blue suit, belting out Suspicious Minds, was simply jaw-dropping.
I now for sure can imagine why he had and still has so many fans! Personally I'm more of a "second stage" Elvis fan, not the rock 'n roll stuff. I think he was just marvelous with the stage performances and the mellow songs he did in the late 60s and 70s.
I wonder if many PSB fans became fans of Elvis after Always On My Mind.

I never liked Elvis at all until attending a fundraising function a few months ago where there was an excellent Elvis impersonator by the name of Mark Andrew performing.

Ironically, right now I'm listening to an Elvis compilation that I could never have imagined buying prior to seeing Mark perform. Granted, it's just a greatest hits album, and I bought it second-hand for two bucks, but still...

Where does that clip come from, Aloha?

I'm assuming aloha simply because of whats around his neck...but I'm not sure where the video clip actually came from, but according to the posters comment he has the aloha album tagged for the music. so I gave it a listen on I-tunes and it sounds just like this only not as good quality.it sounds kinda mono on the aloha album.

anyways heres another one of my fav's. heartbreaking song about divorce "my boy"

Viva Elvis is a good cheap (£2.99 at this precise moment in HMV) compilation that's had the remix treatment a la Beatles "Love". Makes his back catalogue very contemporary and up to date.

Yeah, I love that one too. I grew up on Elvis; I definitely prefer the later stuff though - there's a tragic grandeur to the likes of An American Trilogy.

oh sheesh bateman! I used to spend ...hours.... listening to american trilogy when I was just a little kid because my mother would play this over and over and over again and then weep everytime. she loved her some elvis.me too.
my mother and her sister had tickets to his next show in syracuse,ny. the show he never played because he died.

What's the deal with American Trilogy? I have never heard this song before.

its actually a medley of a few very old songs.
"Dixie"
"All My Trials"
"The Battle Hymn of the Republic"

I think they are a mixture of songs concerning the civil war military,God and black people.

Never was an Elvis fan- I remember the day he died though. But I'm coming around, he definitely had star power and some excellent songs.

"Remember that dream , wherever that dream may lee-ee-ead you.." This was part of a tv ad when I was a very young kid, and I never forgot it. Some cheesy compilation album.

Great singer - American Trilogy, In the Ghetto, Suspicious Minds, Burning Love and so on
