On the other hand, his guitarrist John 5 has left the band where he was for 5 years.

And is this also saying that Manson is supposedly industrial then?
I know I don't like "mainstream" industrial (if there is such a thing), but I'm pretty sure neither band produce industrial. But then again, there are too many streams in music nowadays and no clear borders between them anymore, so what do I know?

Depeche mode are a big influence on lots of industrial bands, and though I hate pigeonholing anyone, there's definitely some industrial in what Manson does.

Perhaps that was an overstatement, but not "very wrong". I never said that Depeche mode WERE an industrial band, but they do come close at times.

The dark edge to their electronica post Vince Clarke has been a big influence on many industrial bands. That much is certain, and that's why it's no big surprise to see Manson covering one of their songs. This was my original point.

Alright. But don't call them "fathers of", please. And you must be right, the guy loves Depeche Mode. Who wouldn't? Sometimes the number of people loving Depeche Mode just exhausts me.

So, ANYONE covering another Depeche Mode song = what an incredibly boring idea.

OK I promise not to do it again, although looking at the bands you mentioned, their earliest work was all released after depeche mode's music started to get dark...

They've both been around since 1983, which is early enough for me. And they're really way more industrial than DM. But of course, we may have a different idea of industrial. Many people do.
