This looks like an exciting event... Very Pet Shop Boys in terms of concept I dare say.

Tickets are on sale today at 13:00.

"The band have cut their back catalogue down to a setlist of around 12 songs, although Sumner said it took two days to go through their old material.

New Order's Bernard Sumner and Tom Chapman reveal their Manchester International Festival shows to Dave Haslam at the MIF 2017 programme launch at Mayfield.

“We’ve been around a while. We’ve made a lot of songs,” he said. “But Manchester International Festival wanted us to do something completely different to our normal set. So we came up with the idea of that we’d play songs we don’t normally play, that we’d take those songs, break them down into their micro components, like smashing mirrors, and then use musicians from the Royal Northern College of Music, these various constituents will be arranged by Joe Dudell.

“There will be 12 synthesiser players, we’re going to deconstruct the songs and Joe will reconstruct the songs and the students will hopefully play better than we do!”

As to how the gigs will look, Bernard was playing his cards close to his chest – although he revealed there would be ‘no Blue Monday’ in the set."

Has anybody seen this? I'm very curious to hear what a synthesizer ensemble sounds like.

The thing that's kind of shocking about this is how much of their older material they haven't done in decades. When I saw them live a few months back they do nothing from Technique.

... and for anyone particularly disappointed by this, hopefully the experience of watching following video should be an amenable alternative...
