Loneliness themes have appeared a lot of late in lyrics? So, is Neil lonely at almost 70?
Geowayne?
I think Loneliness though is probably because of Lockdown when it was recorded. But, it wasn't the greatest time in places. Personally, I am used to it. There are times tho.

Gotta be at least 100,000 dudes across the world that would drop everything to keep him company!

The whole album created during lockdowns. It was a lonely and difficult time for many. People died, people lost jobs and livelihoods, relationships fell apart....

You could have a "bus load" of friends and family but you can still feel lonely.

Yeah, I thought of this lately as well. I think a lot consider loneliness simply "to be alone". But you can be lonely when being surrounded by your friends and family. When they can't understand your true self, or when you can't express yourself well, when you have no one to share your hobby with or your dreams... that can be extremely lonely. And there is hardly a cure against this loneliness, because people will always assume you have a lot of others around and that you are just a drama queen.
I think depression is really a horrible disease and one of the symptome is this extreme loneliness, even when others are around you.
I think the song really shows the struggles of this loneliness, and not when you are alone.

Aren't we all...I definitely identify with the 'becoming invisible as we age' thing that he has touched upon a few times.

This part resonates with me.
When I was young(er), and my communication skills were poor(er), I could only find relief in music. It made me feel less lonely (at least the songwriter knew what I was going through - without even knowing me!)
This is one of the reasons why PSB are so important to me. Neil's lyrics have kept me company for decades.
I've always thought famous people often feel lonely even when they are surrounded by people, staff and fans. Mostly because those relationship don't seem deep enough to me to really connect with each other.
I hope I'm wrong.
