Pet Shop Boys Community

Just curious, I know we all have diverse music tastes on here and this topic is highly subjective. However, in your opinion, what album do you own or listen to that is as far removed from Pet Shop Boys music as it is possible to be within your own specific taste.

I’d say for me, I have Dookie by Green Day and Powerslave by Iron Maiden. These may seem tame in comparison to some on here…

I've got a few Immortal Technique albums, which are a nice, relaxing, listen, NOT. Hourglass by James Taylor, I'm Your Man by Laughin' Leonard Cohen. Seen all three live as well

I’m getting increasingly interested Scandanavian jazz. I’m returning to the Tord Gustavsen Trio more often than expected at first listen.

Achtung baby by U2 is probably the best album I know. Sorry.

I don't think U2 are particularly far removed from PSB.

For me it would be British folk music, for example Lady Maisery's Tender album, or world music such as Musow Danse by Les Amazones d'Afrique.

Some amazing and powerful stuff when Juan "el Lebrijano" Peña goes on one of his soloes with an orchestra from Morrocco.

I have a couple of Ravi Shankar albums (Chants Of India and A Morning Raga) that I play when I want to completely unwind..

I don't really own any, but I do listen to jazz quite frequently on Spotify - mostly as background music when I'm puttering around/cooking etc. I prefer instrumental jazz over singing, but sometimes Spotify sneaks the odd vocal track in.

I'll raise you On The Corner by Miles Davies. The rare six CD metal box "The Complete On The Corner Sessions" version.

Look at all you jazz fans. Does that happen to us all, eventually??

My jazz interest started very young thanks to an uncle playing Oscar Peterson. Joni Mitchell's late 70's albums reignited an interest. Got more Miles than PSB I'd estimate, runs into treble figures. But Fairport Convention, Led Zeppelin, tons of Northern Soul, Aretha, Lee Fields, Elbow, Radiohead, Steely Dan, Van Morrison (almost everything) - very eclectic tastes. Hate pretty much anything in today's streaming charts though.

Most far removed that I really like would probably be either metal bands like Strapping Young Lad or Type O Negative, or 70s-era dub and reggae by the likes of King Tubby, Lee Perry, Johnny Clarke etc.

Retro.

To me Jazz is like Mariah Carey's way of singing. Why use one note when you can use 20.

To add to the discussion, I've a few Metallica albums as I find a lot of their songs quite melodic and do enjoy the way Hetfield and Hammet's guitars play off each other.
