Well, the most famous version anyway. Released 40, yes 40 years ago today to begin its very slow ascent to the pinnacle of the UK charts and world domination!
Time flies folks…

Nope. It was released last Wednesday. Thank you for complying with my denial.

To put that into context, looking back 40 years ago in 1985 and the Second World War had just ended.

Time is relative. To me, it's quite insignificant.
What are we really comparing it to. On it's own, it's just a number.
By the way there's that Pet Shop Boys "West End Girls" (40th Anniversary Remix) 40 unofficial remix someone put on Youtube.
It has over a quarter million views. I don't like how it almost poses as being official, but the comment section is quite wholesome.

Imagine a record from 1945 that still sounded fresh and contemporary in 1985. It's hard to conceive of isn't it?

You'll never walk alone? Now a stadium anthem.

No idea if link will work, but there's a few pictures of how Petticoat lane market looks now, with the scenes from the video lined up and held as photos (they know they don't quite have the right set of stairs, but it was that building).

That's so funny - I went to the gym right by there for years and never once clocked it! For some reason I always assumed it was somewhere in west London.

My brother who follows social media told me that just at this moment there is a West End Girls trend on TikTok. Apparently people like acting out some of the songs lyrics.
Also, I think it featured on a recent You Tube ad for a high street fashion chain - possibly H&M. I saw it once, towards the end of September, around the time of London Fashion Week. But, when I searched for it, I couldn't find it. Did anyone else see it? It was a tribute to the original video, with Neil and Chris replaced by young models walking up and down a London street in nice clothes.
