In "Volume" this pictures are described as the "Thompson Twins" pictures:

This is a mistake.

To be correct, they refer to "Thomson and Thompson", fictional characters in The Adventures of Tintin comics series

They are not twins at all, their name is even different "Thomson and Thompson"

"Thompson Twins" are them:

Although the Thompson Twins did base their name on the detective characters.

I first saw that first photo on the front cover of Time Out and kept it for years!

I’ve had the poster rolled up for years and just moved into a new apartment so I will finally frame it!

Is there an explanation, or a design rationale behind Neil and Chris being dressed like this during the Performance tour? It's a striking look and creates a memorable image, but have these particular outfits got deeper meaning in relation to what they were doing artistically at that time?

I always saw it as a surrealist René Magritte reference rather than Tin Tin inspired. Insert tired joke about famous Belgians.

The audio commentary on the DVD explains a lot about the show and the storyline. I can't remember if they talk about the Tintin characters though. Maybe someone can check it out?

The costumes are referred to as "their bowler-hatted moustached Magritte uniforms" in Pet Shop Boys vs America.
