From my perspective, they should try:

1) To create their last three new albums:
The first one: going deep in other pop music styles from all over the world, PSB don't usually play. A mixture of songs with different styles, including rock, latin, gospel, k-pop, etc in only one album.
The second one: going deep into the future of music. Trying to find new music sounds, experimental in a way.
The third one: going back to the basics and going deep into the music styles of the Imperial Phrase, sounding like the classic PSB were back.

2) To create a musical/movie with their whole music catalog.

3) A high scale last tour (if they had budget enough).

Apart from the usual compilations, further recordings, etc. A compilation full of duets like a kind of tribute from other artists could be great too.

Open a chain of launderettes.

These days artists don't seem to retire. Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones, Ringo Starr all in their 80's. If they keep going until they are 90 I'm all for it.

Whatever they want, is the real answer. That means if they feel like experimenting with different styles or side projects, then I'm cool with that. I think an easier question is what do I expect them to do. I expect them to continue with what they're already doing, intermittently bringing out new albums. Each one being inspired by whatever inspires them at the time. I believe Nonetheless was inspired by SMASH and the Dreamworld tour, revisiting the classic hits and trademark sounds of PSB.
Hotspot was a loveletter to their favourite city, Berlin. Lost was motivated by making statements about Russia being at war with Ukraine. They'll continue living and channeling their creative minds into an output of music. We already know about what the next album is being inspired by. I mean, why wouldn't they just continue doing new albums and eras, photoshoots, b-sides and the like.
It's a good system they have, and it doesn't feel static. They love touring, they love songwriting. Age doesn't change this.
By the way, on the subject of age. I find it irrelevant. Madonna's new album released this week isn't at all held back by her age.
Rolling Stones brought out a new album, which apparently is good though not my style of music so I don't know. Even Paul McCartney is still bringing out brand new music. These artists are older than PSB, and they aren't being held back.
Why even mention retirement. I genuinely despise this topic, it's ageist and offensive as far as I'm concerned.

Overall I'm pretty satisfied with what PSB have already done. I can't sit back and think 'oh if only they made some new music in a particular style', 'if only they...'. They've already gone above and beyond.
I mean I'd like them to come to Australia. I'd like them to release a remastered 1989 concert video. But we've already spoken about all these things and who are we to write a wishlist. The Nonetheless era has been incredibly fruitful. I don't feel entitled to any special requests, to be frank.

You know, Chris Lowe's favourite era of Elvis Presley was his final years as he was deteriorating and his performances became somewhat tragic. I'm paraphrasing, but that's the gist of it. So I feel both Neil and Chris are open to embracing continuing whilst they can, even if they become more wrinkled or if Neil's voice starts to change. It just seems like something they'd be okay with.

I genuinely expect I'll become tired of PSB's music before they do.

I won't use the phrase "They should..." What I would like them to do above all else is release as many albums as possible, so I can enjoy as many new songs as possible.

I'm uncomfortable with "should" too. They can do anything they like as far as I'm concerned!

I think they already doing number 3.

OK but it's how I feel about the matter!

I don't think they will formally retire. They'll probably just saunter off without actually saying anything.

I hope they re-record and release In The Club Or In The Queue before they do, though.

Go back to the Richard Niles' charts for Overture to Performance and develop complete arrangements for all of those 9 songs, add in the Can you forgive her? swing mix and there's a complete album (or an excuse to do a live show in another defiantly non-rock'n'roll venue).
