Today there's a solar eclipse so it is a day for playing Casting a shadow, the track they recorded for the total solar eclipse of 1999. What an understated epic track.

Thanks for posting. Goosebumps watching the vid, and I've always loved the track. A magical, mysterious, prickly gem.

Was there back in ‘99! Had lunch with Zoe Ball and Norman Cook but didn’t get to meet the Boys (think they left straight afterwards). Remember it going all dark and spooky. It was actually very cloudy. The birds stopped singing. So surreal. But yeah everyone was talking over the music which was a bit annoying but otherwise a good time in lovely Cornwall.

I remember it going darker, windier and all the birds going to roost on rooftops, thinking it was beddy-byes.

PSB just posted about it on their Bluesky.

https://bsky.app/profile/did:plc:igpatz ... vmejhxfk25

"27 years ago (August 11, 1999), Neil and Chris wrote a piece of music called “Casting a shadow” which was broadcast by BBC Radio One while a total #eclipse was taking place.

The piece was written to synchronise with the stages of the eclipse and Neil and Chris went to Cornwall to present it at the Radio One Roadshow there".

Well. THAT was Anti-climactic. Turns out, 7% of the sun is still just as bright and hot.

South east UK.

Yes, but all your shadows turn into little crescent moons! It's very pretty, no?

I never miss an excuse to play Casting a Shadow. It's one of my most played tracks. They did a pretty good job of syncing up with the totality phase.

Someone posted this little clip on Reddit of them being interviewed by Radio 1 before the eclipse in full Nightlife drag, eyebrows and all!

I listened to Casting a shadow yesterday to join the fun and now it's stuck in my head. Total earworm.
