Just coming off the back of a stellar week in Toronto where I saw (not for the first time) Peter Hook & the Light, Iron Maiden, and for the first time, Megadeth.

It got me thinking about what other live acts we've enjoyed outside of PSB. I'm influenced a lot by the likes of my family too, so Megadeth wasn't high on my list of people I wanted to see and it was loud and not particularly good in my humble opinion, but Iron Maiden always put on a really great show, and the songs I know I really do like.

This is my 4th time seeing Peter Hook & the Light - this time doing a play through of New Order's "Get Ready", and he has never disappointed. He and his band really have their proverbial $h!t together and for my money are better than New Order are as a live act today (having seen them a number of times after PH left the band).

I was also recently at a Muse concert, and they put on a great show too - they rely a lot on electronics in their act, so it's interesting to see how they work that into a primarily rock genre.

The one band that impressed me live last year was Winnetka Bowling League - reminded me of New Order a bit - but sadly their recorded stuff on Spotify doesn't convey that at all.

Reminds me of a time I saw an Aussie band called The Fangs about 20-25 years ago - they had this fantastic live sound, in the Interpol / Joy Division range. I enthusiastically bought their album, but alas, it didn't convey that live sound at all.

Peter Hook And The Light definitely sound good "live" on the live CD recordings. I'd probably get more of those except that I'd feel I'm duplicating too much.

Beyond that I can't really comment on live bands because I haven't been to any concerts this decade... I do break the drought in November though, with two in three days.

Best live concert for me was Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine at Brixton Academy - November 2, 2007.

Not a huge fan of live albums, but got to admit the PH&TL ones are very good - you can listen on streaming too.

I think Carter USM would have been fun.
