Assuming you have a digital photo, you'd need to use a program like
irfanview to crop/resize it to 100x100 pixels. You then go to your profile, and use the upload avatar function near the bottom.

I've tried this Irfanview thingy but it makes not-a-lotta-sense to me.
I've fiddled & twiddled but I can't get it to do what I want.!

As long as you save it as a jpeg file, it should be small enough.
