I know the're not that much info yet... But what 's your feeling about the whole thing in general and Where do you think the PSB R in there carreer...????


I thinks is gonna a be, problably, the greatest pieces of music we've heard in a few years...And

My own feeling is quite optimistic and hope it to be something of a great sucess financially.... i mean that people are a bit enticipating a bit, not just the fans but i think in general....like the whole vibe is quite ready for that album... And with this completely new album, I think they might even enlarge there fanbase...

WIch I think is great for the PSB.

pletely unknown ...

Well, We know all this things (according to PSB):

- The new album will sound "epic"
- It will be SO Pet Shop Boys, they'll do the typical songs they used to do
- Some songs are like it's a sin
- It will be produced by TH
- They have got a new song written by Diane Warren

So for me it's clear, they want to do:

- A comming back to their golden days

- A similar sound they used to do in Actually and Introspective

- They are looking for a massive success again, in some way


(According to some websites the group Simple Mind is trying to do something similar, a comming back with epic songs).

Get back to their earlier stuff which was far more popular.

Simple Minds have never really done anything else than epic songs. They just haven't been doing very good epic songs for about 20 years now... Well, the new album is not bad, but I definitely hope N & C do a better job.

They´re 45 and 51 years old now. And may not be that popular anymore except among us, fans.

I don't see the importance of being that popular. They should only write good songs, that's all I want them to do.

I'm very optimistic but understand why they have tried different things since Very. They've been around twenty years and it must be extremely boring even to them to recycle the Golden Age template. After Very, you see the movement towards a more louche recording style (ie: take a couple of years and record when the mood takes you) with the tropical island vibe of Bilingual. There are also the last vestiges of the old sound - A red letter day and Somewhere.

Nightlife will forever be synonymous with Closer to Heaven. This patchy album mixes the most club-orientated tracks they've ever done (Radiophonic) with the most kitsch (New York City Boy and In Denial).

Then Release goes a step further and finally releases them from their past. The songs still have strong melodies and minor chords but they are now filtered through 'rock' aesthetics and the promotional imagery is deliberately blank.

Only now can they return to the ghosts of the Golden Age.....

I miss to the OLD Pet Shop Boys, of course we are not in the 80's but I think the ESSENCE of PSB is on Actually and Introspective (and a little bit of Behaviour and Very). So it's time to come back to the ESSENCE and to do similar things (I'm not talking about the 80's sounds, I'm talking ABOUT the way they used to work and the tipical PSB atmosphere). Good productions and spectacular music movements.

As for a title, I wonder whether they should call it:

Imperial Pet Shop Boys

Because it will sound like when they were in their 'imperial' phase (and of course it's very ironic, because they are the furthest from their imperial phase they have ever been and it will sell only a fraction of what they were selling in their imperial phase). Just a suggestion anyway...

I think, personally, that if this album lives up to expectations, it will be the first Pet Shop Boys album to sell over a million copies since Nightlife.

If Release can sell 750,000 - then an epic, electro, trevor horn produced masterpiece (which we all hope and expect this to be) can surely return them to 7 figures.

People often underestimate how many albums PSB sell. The UK is only 5% of their global market.
