PSB Question on Who Wants to be a Millionaire

A tiny tidbit of news from downunder.....On last weeks episode of Millionaire was the following question for $16,000:

Which duo had the hit singles 'West End Girls' and 'Go West'?
A: Wham! B: Yazoo C: Go West D: Pet Shop Boys

Contestant, after much deliberation, managed to get it right. She went on to win $32,000.

PSB rated another mention in last Sunday's SunHerald newspaper. The magazine "Life", which is part of the paper, each week has a top 5 Hitlist, and last week it was the top 5 cover songs that improved on the original. "Always on my mind" by Pet Shop Boys was top of the list, with the accompanying blurb saying something like Elvis fans would probably scream in horror, so just turn the sound up and drown them out. Too true!

2 PSB moments in one week! I almost feel faint! :?

Is that Millionaire you get, repeats of the British show?

Over here, there are meant to be no trick questions but you could easily be lead in to believing that the answer was Go West, if you didn't have a clue.

If it is British repeats, look out for the episode when the contestant is cheating and gets found gulity of fraud. It's a classic.

No, this is our very own home grown version. Although it's not inconcievable that the questions are lifted straight from the UK version. Was this same question asked over there?

In a year or two that same PSB related question will be the 1,000,000 one. No-one outside of this forum will still remember them

But then psb-freak will be a dead cert for the first Finnish million-winner. That is, if she manages to crack all the previous tough questions – like what's the capital of Sweden and so.

Heard the TV ad for the Finnish version of The Beauty and the Geek yesterday.
During the long ad Opportunities was played. Something like 20-30 seconds.

On the spanish version of the programme there was also the question "Which pop duo is integrated by Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe?". The contestant answered it right without much problem.

Opportunities is used all the time on British TV.

Normally, in association with the capitalist, Thatcherite 80's, over shots of a busy stock exchange. How imaginative.

Taken from Wikipedia:

"In an episode of the British show recorded on September 10, 2001, Major Charles Ingram won the £1,000,000 prize. During the recording it was noticed that a suspicious pattern of coughing could be heard. The Major's unusual behaviour in the "hot seat" also drew attention. When subsequently analysed it became apparent that another contestant, Tecwen Whittock, seated in "contestants row" was offering Major Ingram prompts in the form of coughs, indicating the correct answers. On many of the questions Major Ingram read aloud all of the four answers, until a cough was heard, before choosing his answer. In some cases he even dismissed an answer, read aloud the answers again, and picked an answer he had earlier dismissed."

I was under the impression that the show with Ingram never aired. I know at one point Russell T Davies was writing a drama about it, but I haven't heard any more recently.

It was aired along with a documentary about the whole thing - it may have been with Martin Bashir. ITV held it back for ages though.

I don't know if the actual show was aired at the time. I doubt it was because Chris Tarrant said that the prducers knew something wasn't right immidiatly after the show. There was a documentary on it which was so funny. They made it so obvious. Book Shop has explained it well. I mean the guy in the hot seat still says he was innocent but it was that obvious, it was pathetic. 15 minutes after the show the guy that won 1 million was having a huge argument with his wife. I mean you really do that don't you when you have just become a millionaire. His wife was going mad because he went too far and was too greedy.
