Hello.. been a member forever, but am now a certified lurker!
Anyway, over the past few months I've noticed massive amounts of negativity towards the boys. What would you say the reason is? I find it a little disconcerting, to be honest.

I'm all for criticism, in fact I think it's hugely important, but it appears that it's gone way beyond that lately.

Not sure why...

for me, they are making the best music of their careers.I LOVE their newer stuff far more than their early stuff.

alot of criticism is pretty constructive. I think it just seems like it is over the top simply because by and large we are a bitchy group and we just come across that way.

Personally I love most of what PSB do. I love their Pop music, I love their Theatre stuff, I love the Potemkin score. Of course there a few songs they've written that I can 'take or leave' but I just wouldn't rip them to shreds because of it ! They probably don't know what goes on here anyway.....just as well really.

Bitching about them is more fun than gushing over them.

If Neil and Chris were PSB fans, they'd be even bitchier about PSB.

I agree with you. I love the last singles, disco3, and the potemkin. And I dont know what all those negative ones are expeting to.

What I don't like is the criticism against "Release". What do you have with this album, people? It's a great work!

Just the general disenchantment with PSB's career in recent times. Their songwriting and production values have been on a bit of a freefall for the best part of the last ten years.

Potemkin and/or Disco 3 are supposed to be an indication of better PSB times to come. We'll see

I for one cannot blame you for not liking Release. I prefer Disco 2.

The constructive criticism is great.. it's the other stuff I've seen that bothers me. And I agree, I'm sure N&C are hyper critcal of themselves - they're artists. Great art can never come from apathy.

As for their 'decline'... Flamboyant is one of my all-time faves and I've been a fan since '86.

But, we can't all like everything, can we?

The Night I Fell in Love... for example. Great first couple of listens, funny even. But it palls pretty quickly...

Without criticism this board might as well be the Erasure forum and as Neil never uses the internet because he's always doing something fabulous like Naked Twister with Janet and Elt, we can pretty much say anything and not hurt his feelings.

Personally I love their recent output and think the Potemkin score is a triumph. It was a fantastic evening in Trafalgar Square and I would urge all naysayers to see it before they slag it off. It's an event more than anything else which is why I was dismayed to hear Neil's comments about the songs appearing on the next album; they work in the context of Potemkin but as stand-alone pop songs, they'd be pretty bland and certainly not the electronic bons mots we've been expecting.
