Markus had a good point on a previous post.
Tennent/Lowe is a better name for PSB to call themselves from now on. Pet Shop Boys is so 80s.

Don't you mean Tennant/Lowe ?
Anyway are you suggesting that they be called like 'Simon & Garfunkel' ,
"Tennant & Lowe" ?
C'mon, That might sound nice to your mature audience, but we kids still like to think of them as...boys!

Pet Shop Boys has always been a terrible name. But these days it's well enough known to be a sort of brand where nobody really cares what it means. Changing it now would undoubtedly be ridiculed as a sort of "Now we're grown-ups" move.

Pet Shop Boys has always been a fantastic name. As all good band names, it strikes you as interesting and makes you want to check the band out.

better than most of the bands with 'The' and those named after obscure characters in cult books ie. aren't we clever and different

Well I didn't actually mean Psb should abandon that name totally. It's well known all over the world and that's worth a lot of money. The name alone will help them sell records in the future without much advertisment. But Tennant/Lowe is a great name for alternative releases, gives them more creative freedom without risking their reputation if the albums flop. They could even enter the Eurovision song contest

Pet Shop Boys is better. They can´t change the name.

I've always liked the name Pet Shop Boys regardless of what it means - I just like the name. I'm not really keen on Tennant/Lowe though.

As they say themselves, 'Pet Shop Boys' is a brand as much as anything.
Of course they should not change it.

Absolutely. And it rolls off the tongue nicely and looks good on paper. there's no comparison with it and the band names of today: the Killers, The Kills, The Thrills, The Tears, The Rakes, The Strokes, The Vines...zzzzzz.

me and a friend were at a college bar and after we met a couple girls and we went for a ride and I had a mix tape of the petshop boys playing in the background.they heard "how I learned to hate rock and roll" the song "nightlife" and radiophonic before we got where we were going. clubby sounding songs. they were sit down dancing the whole ride they LOVED it.
they asked who it was I told them it was "the PSB".I could have said the petshop boys but for some reason I felt a tad embarresed in case on the off chance these young girls knew who they were and also probably didnt want to date myself maybe.but I am sure they thought the psb was some young new group coming out.

You've got guts playing a song as bad and cheesy as "Nightlife" to a couple of young lasses!!
