I think it sounds quite interesting. I have two Rufus Wainwright albums ("Poses" and "Want One") and like them both but feel they are slightly unfocused. You get the feeling they could be *great* records but he has kind of lost it somewhere along the way. They are too long, and he goes over top in places in a way which is slightly cringe worthy. Hopefully Neil can provide that pop sensibility and make sure Rufus finally delivers the sharp, focused album that i think he is probably capable of.

His version of Casanova in Hell was great too....

*brrrrr* If PSB really need to team with some goodlucking 'puppets' without any creative musical input, I suggest they find some people who can actually *sing*. I don't want new PSB tracks ruined by those two duck voices....

I am a MASSIVE Pet Shop and Rufus fan so this news excites me even more than finding out PSB would be remixing Madonna. I was so happy to read Rufus' thank you to Neil and Chris in the liner notes to Want One (which I consider to be one of the best albums of all time). It's always funny to learn one group you like respects another group you like. I can't wait to hear influences of Neil in the new Wainwright album. I can't believe that Neil is involved this heavily in the new album. I surfed over to the Rufus BBoard and started a thread about the PSB Rufus connection and it looks like lots of Rufus fans are PSB fans themselves.

I also think it is awesome that Keane cited PSB as a major influence, and that Neil claims Imogen Heap's Headlock is one of his top 5 favorite tracks of the moment in the new Literally.

Ah, when great musical acts collide. :P

Just watch the film Brokeback Mountain and listen for the most nauseating song ever recorded.

Sorry to everyone that likes him. I'm certain Rufus has lots to contribute to the music world but IMO his voice is like nails on a chalkboard.

Hopefully Neil will broaden Ruf's horizon a bit.

and I guess Madonna likes it enough to use Neil's vocals on Sorry in her concerts.
Is Neil's voice on the Pet Shop Boys remix of Girls and Boys by Blur?

Is it just me? I don't get all the raving about Rufus, his singing just reminds me a wailing. Can somebody suggest something (pleasing to the ears) which might make me change my mind?

I ain't trying to dismiss him in anyway at all - I just don't think his style of music suits me.

It's most definitely not just you. I also wondered where all the hype came from. So I tried to get some stuff from him last year or so. Goodness knows what I was listening to but boring as hell and I really don't like the voice. And after this year's Casanova? Dear lord, confirmation that his voice grates as hell.:?

Rufus does seem to divide opinion; personally I think he's fantastic. Great singer and even greater songwriter. Want One is a brilliant record and has become one of my favourite albums of all time. I can't wait for a new Rufus album regardless of whether Neil is involved, though it is exciting news.

Agreed. He ruined Casonova In Hell. Robbie's version of Jealousy was actually better.

I'm glad it's not just me then. I thought I'm not ready for the ear trumpet just yet.

i think rufus' version of casanova is better than the original, but understand that people eithe r love him or hate him.

i still think the boys should write and produce a full album for Sylvia Mason James. she has an amazing voice and who better to work with her than PSB.
