What makes you think PSB will stop writing soon? The boys still knock out great songs and if they ever decide to stop with the band Pet Shop Boys, I think they will continue as writers and producers for other artists.

I didn't say I think they'll stop writing soon. They're bound to stop one day though. Or they'll just keep racking up the top 20 singles!

Rufus' next studio album will be titled, "Release The Stars." It is the first album produced entirely by Rufus. Neil Tenant is the executive producer. It will be released at the beginning of May. More info to come soon.

What does executive producer mean? A lot of times I see the head of an artists record label as the executive producer or the artist him/herself.

Rufus Wainwright's new album will be called 'Release The Stars'.

According to rufuswainwright.com, the follow up to 2004's 'Want Two' will be produced by Wainwright himself.

Pet Shop Boys' Neil Tennant will serve as executive producer. The two had previously collaborated on 'Matinee Idol', a track from Wainwright's self titled debut that was re - worked for the Pet Shop Boys live album 'Concrete'.

The album will be released in May

My thought too Dipso, what's Matinee Idol? Never heard about that before, nor about any Rufus track being reworked for Concrete. I think NME got 1 or 2 things wrong here.

Very strange indeed.

Do they mean "Casanova in Hell" - but in what way is that a "re-worked" Rufus Wainwright song? If so, he should have a songwriting credit for it.

Neils a consultant producer which means he suggests something and rufus ignores him. I remember Bowie saying that Neil had great 'ears'!!!

Yeah, consultant producer is way easier: he gives his opinion and gets paid well.
Executive producer is a much more demanding role- you're responsible for everything .
The potential profit can be higher if the CD is a hit, but..lotta work.
Neil's quite wise here.

I really don't Neil will be doing this for the money...

i thought the producer is the guy who pays for the production: studio, equipment... at least in the film-industry it is like that... in music biz the producers often have a more creative part i guess, as you sometimes really hear who produced it (e.g. stephen hagues sound design)...
