Well, I think it's obvious that the commercial prospects of this single are extremely poor. However, on principle, I like the fact that they'll at least do something to promote this soundtrack project. I hated the fact that the glorious "Closer To Heaven" soundtrack was never promoted by a single.

I think its an elegant track. simple yet effective words and a beautiful orchestra arrangement.wish neil thickened his vocals a bit more at the end when he sings "one for and all for one for freedom",as it is he sounds like he is drowning in strings. I also wish they wouldnt end songs so quick. let the hook breathe a bit. repeat the one for bit a couple more times.

if the almighty remixes of Positive Role Model had been released as a single i think it would have helped the soundtrack. im not sure i agree that it was a flop show. i'd be curious to know how well it sold thru its run. i was there for previews and just after the opening. friends of mine went in August. the shows we attended were sold out.Zeus On The Loose wrote:Why should it have been promoted with a single? Unfortunately I was unable to get across to the UK to see the show but I absolutely love listening to the CD of the musical... I particularly enjoy Call me old fashioned, Friendly Fire & the title track. I tend to skip Something Special, In denial, Nine out of 10 and Vampires. Yet I still have 10 or so tracks to enjoy (including the brilliant CTH x 3). I'd love to see it on DVD sometime !

I think that "Closer to Heaven" should have been promoted with a single - but with a Pet Shop Boys version of a track from the musical. Maybe "Closer to heaven" itself!Zeus On The Loose wrote:Why should it have been promoted with a single? It was just the soundtrack of a flop theatrical show.
I don't really see the point in having a single for "Battleship Potemkin". As a fan, I would love the opportunity to hear some new b-sides or remixes, but PSB are unlikely to promote the album like a regular PSB studio album, so there is no real need for a single release. They should stick to promoting the album (or DVD if there is one) with live performances of the film.

I think they planned to release Closer To Heaven to promote the musical because when the questions section was up on the official site I asked them about a fourth Nightlife single and Neil said it would have been C2H to promote the musical.
I really think both C2H and BP should have had a single to promote them (I seriously doubt NTFT being a single if it is a single I will buy the tweenies album and run down my street in a chicken costume). I think Closer To Heaven would have been perfect to promote C2H:The Musical either that or Vampires as it could have helped to promte the musical and Nightlife.
